I met with the restaurant where we are holding our reception last week (my fav!!) & the chef sent me home with a massive package to mull over for when we have to choose our menu & tapas.

So ladies, lets pick some tapas! I have NO idea what our guests would like as the options are different than what a lot of our guest probably are used to.

We're looking for 5 winners and the only must have for my FI & are are the Lobster Fritters. I would sacrifice my first born for these little Lobster & scallop balls of firey goodness. lol

    1. Hazelnut Brie Wontons

    2. Louisiana Alligator Skewers OUT

    3. Lobster Wings- Grilled Lobster tails w/ spicy dipping sauce

    4. Fig & Asparagus puff pastry (w/ goat cheese)

    5. Vegetable satay

    6. Chilled Chili Lime Prawns

    7. Duck Spring rolls

    8. BBQ Beef tenderloin Flatbread

    9. Black Satin Chicken- Grilled Chicken breasts in a sweet & savoury ginger soy demerara glaze

    10. Shrimp & Crab wraps- Basically like a pin-wheel: shrimp, crab, cucumber, tomatoes, ancho lemon sauce wrapped in a tortilla

    11. Tempura Fried Tofu

     Thanks for your help!

Hazlenut brie wontons sound like complete heaven to me.  Fig and asparagus puffed pastry with goat cheese also sounds phenomenal.  Your restaurant offers a great selection!  Enjoy every delicious bite :-)

Lobster Wings - What are they though .. I really love lobster

    Duck Spring rolls

Shrimp & Crab wraps- are these just like wontons? Hmm.... love crab and shrimp

BBQ Beef tenderloin Flatbread - bbq sauce on anything is heaven to me

Tempura Fried Tofu- I really love tempura!!!!!

What yummy options. My only concern is, maybe some guest might not want everything to be fried ... by the looks of it, the only thing that isn't is the flatbread ... maybe add the veggie satay ... even though that's not my taste.

    Good luck!

Okay, so you'll definitely have the lobster fritters.  My picks for the other four would be Hazelnut Brie Wontons, Vegetable satay (something for the vegetarians), Chili Lime Prawns, and Black Satin Chicken (because some people aren't adventurous when it comes to their palates and will probably appreciate something standard).

@MsHymanRoth: The restaurant classifies itself as West Coast cuisine with a southern twist. Surprisingly though, its not all deep fried! lol Thats why we went with this restaurant.. its west coast like me & southern like him. I modified the post a little :) and the flatbread IS heavenly!

Thanks for all your input so far... I was sooo shocked to hear people gush over the fig & asparagus puff pastry! I totally thought that no one would go for it.

lol I think its safe to say that the alligator is off the table (phewf... its also $6.95 per piece)

I've had alligator; it's not that bad, but a little tough.  Definitely not worth the price, though.  That's kinda ridiculous.

@Mrs.Spring: I know!! That's the only unreasonable thing on their catering menu... the food is wonderful and the catering prices are really affordable. Their premium buffet is only costing me $36 per person. It's a FULL spread of delicious, delicious food & normally $36 will only buy you a chicken entree there. We get to customize our menu & work directly with the chef. I really, really love this place!

    Sorry, I'll stop gushing!!

I agree. What a fantastic menu to choose from! I also think you should go with:

    1. Brie

    2. Black Satin Chicken

    3. Tofu or veggie satay

Try to think about your non-meat eating guests, though its hard. Also, some people may be allergic to seafood (it runs in my family, but thank god I didn't get it!!). I envy you having this decision to make!! Good luck.

I thought about the veggie option- although only 1 of my guests is vegetarian (BM) is vegetarian... and actually, now that I think about it, she's vegan. I'm pretty sure she'll eat before hand anyway. I know that sounds terrible, but she does that everywhere she goes as her options are usually limited. I will talk to her though & see about getting a special meal for her :)

Another option I had thought about was micro crudite & salads, I saw it in a bridal magazine once... the crudite was in mini bread "bowls" (a slice of french bread hollowed out) w/ dip and a parmesan cup with spring salad, mini tomato slice & dressing.

    4. Fig & Asparagus puff pastry (w/ goat cheese)
    6. Chilled Chili Lime Prawns

If I was a guest at your wedding I'd be very happy w/your menu!

Yum! I'm totally jealous of your guests.

    My picks are:

    1. Hazelnut Brie Wontons

    2. Lobster Wings- Grilled Lobster tails w/ spicy dipping sauce

    3. Chilled Chili Lime Prawns

    4. Duck Spring rolls

    5. BBQ Beef tenderloin Flatbread

    6. Shrimp & Crab wraps- Basically like a pin-wheel: shrimp, crab, cucumber, tomatoes, ancho lemon sauce wrapped in a tortilla

I put six because I wasn't sure if the lobster wings are the same as the lobster fritters you definitely want - so I didn't know whether to pick just five or six. If it's just five, I'd drop the shrimp and crab wraps because you already have a lot of delicious sea food!

Mmmmm.  I'm picturing myself in fron to f a buffet tale with all of those options. only allowed to choose four.

On my plate, next to the lobster fritters, I'd put:

    Duck Spring rolls

    Black Satin Chicken

    Shrimp & Crab wraps

     BBQ Beef tenderloin Flatbread

I can see the appeal of the fig & asparagus puff pastry, it just wouldn't come top of my list without having tried it.  Love figs, love puff pastry, love asparagus, just not sure how they'd work in combination -- if I'd tried it at a tasting and it was great, I'd add it to the list.

4,8, 9 and 10 plus the lobster fritters. Though I like the sound of the lobster tales better IMO. All of it sounds yummy. Whatever you pick, make sure you have veggie and light options. Not everything friends, not everything beef, etc. Nothing is worse then when all the apps are fried or beef, if you don't eat meat, etc. KWIM?

Wow, you have seriously lucked out with your catering! If it were up to me and I had to stick to five (which is really hard by the way!) I'd go with:

    Hazelnut Brie Wontons
    Vegetable Satay
    Black Satin Chicken
    Shrimp & Crab Wraps
    and
    your Lobster Fritters

Deeeeelicious and variety - love it!

Btw: It's a restaurant! A ton of amazing restaurants cater-- don't rule them out! I started going there when they first opened & eventually got to know the head chef/owner. The restaurant has a very upscale lounge feel to it... we're having the entire reception there. No rental costs, a reasonable minimum, no booking fees, it's all inclusive.

The only catch: I had to take a 9am- 5pm slot. They were booked every Saturday for July 2010. Yes, more than a year in advance! Ahh! Our reception will be from 12-4:30pm. I couldn't imagine having anyone else cater for my wedding though so I took it!

    Best food. Ever!
