- Wedding: June 2011
I had to come and share my excitement! Even though we had already decided to get married, set a date, and started making plans for our wedding, I still didn’t have an official proposal. I knew that he wanted to make it a big surprise moment, and I knew it would happen by the end of the year (he’d told my parents that we’d be officially engaged by the end of the year), but I have to admit I was starting to think he was going to make me wait until Christmas or New Year’s!!
Quick background story before the proposal story: About a month ago, my guy and I were talking about how great it would be when we can call each other “my husband” and “my wife,” and he teased me that he was just waiting on me to give him a ring. 😉 So I’m kinda crafty, and after that comment, I went home and crocheted a Tiffany blue ring box and wedding ring to give him as a joke. He got a HUGE kick out of it but also thought it was super-sweet. Here’s the ring box I made:
Anyway, we had planned to go to Chicago this past weekend so I could meet his good friends and so we could catch the Dave Matthews concert. That was on Saturday. Sunday morning at the hotel, I was packing up my backpack with the stuff we would need for the day, and I was about to put his camera in the camera case when he quickly snatched it out of my hand. I didn’t think much about it at the time… We’d planned to scooter around the city a bit and take one of the riverboat architecture tours. So after we had brunch that morning, we walked to Millennium Park for a few minutes, and then he said, “Let’s go over to Buckingham Fountain while the sun is still out so we can take some pictures of it.” So we walked over there and decided to sit on one of the benches and people-watch for a bit. So then he says to me, “Will you put my camera in the case for me please?” I opened up the camera case and saw the crocheted ring box I’d made for him! OK, I confess, I didn’t immediately put two and two together. 🙂 But I looked over at him and he had this HUGE smile on his face, and I opened up the box and there was my beautiful, beautiful ring!!! I was so surprised and amazed! And then he started telling me all these sweet and wonderful things and asked if I would marry him. Of course I said YES!! So we sat on the bench for a while, having a really wonderful moment. Like, 30 minutes’ worth of moments. 🙂 And then we called my parents and alerted the Facebook community.
Well, I was without my laptop this weekend and just got back from Chicago late last night, so I had to wait until this morning to share my excitement here. Thanks for reading my story! I was so thrilled and surprised. I totally didn’t see it coming! And I am not much of a jewelry person, but I am head-over-heels excited about my ring. It is perfect for me, and so sparkly and beautiful! He did an amazing job finding the perfect ring for me.
Thanks again for reading my story and letting me gush! 🙂
