Does he play any other games on the PS3 or Xbox? My hubby sounds a lot like yours (nerdy engineering type) and he LOVES Little Big Planet 2 on the PS3. You can play the levels there are on the game, or you can play online levels that other people have built, or you can build your own levels! I think the engineer in him would love it.
Not on any gaming consoles, but do they have a version for the Mac? That might be a good idea...
What about a weekend camping trip?
A campsite fee is usually under $50, right? Some light camping food and snacks should roll in under $100?
Family Day trip to a nearby museum?
@Mrs. Spring: I think they have it for PC? Not 100% sure, tho.
Your hubby and mine are cut from the same cloth!
Spa day- joint massages, a nice meal out, etc.?
Museum day- art, an aquarium, natural history museum... something of the like?
Not sure if you live near any wineries or within driving distance- but maybe a wine tasting day with a food pairing or something?
Those are all gifts I've done for my guy and he loved them. :)
Oooh! Also not sure if he likes Star Wars but one of my hubby's favorite gifts was when I took him to Star Wars in Concert. The guy who played C3PO hosts it, you get to see clips of all 6 movies edited together with a live symphony playing over it and there is a display with TONS of memoribilia that you can browse through. Not sure where in CA you are, but it's comign soon to the Hollywood Bowl in LA- maybe that would be an option?
@missbiscuit: That's super cute. :) We're in Tahoe, so maybe too far away, but a very cool idea.
Hmmm, I like the camping trip idea quite a bit. Maybe we can schedule it for June or July when all the snow has melted.
I like "event" type gifts like the musuem suggestion, but we live in a rural area, so it's not as accessible for us. To go to a museum would be at least a day trip (or probably overnight since we'd take the baby with us). I could research and see what's around us, though, in case he's up for a trip.
Alright, camping trip booked! I'm so excited! We are going to Grover Hot Springs State Park, which is pretty close to where we live. And for his birthday, I am going to give him a new flashlight to open and then make him guess what his "real" present is. :) I think he's going to love it!
Thanks for all your help, bees!
I have such a horrible time figuring out what to get my husband!
We have at least 3 flashlights in each room of our house. 1 of which is plugged into an outlet and comes on in a power outage.
And of course at least two in each vehicle. *rolleyes* He's crazy. heheh.

Anyone wanna help me figure out what to buy my husband for his birthday? Both of our birthdays and our wedding anniversary are in the same week, so I probably should stick to $100 or less for his birthday (since his anniversary girft is over $150! oops!).
His hobbies: hiking, camping, geocaching, World of Warcraft, and snowshoeing.
His interests: science, history, environmental stuff, etc.. He's an engineer, so he's kinda nerdy.
His most recent gifts included: a new flatscreen tv, new snowshoes, and Cataclysm for WoW.
Any help?
