My fiancee and I are both Christians and the church that we are getting married at has a beautiful pipe organ! I would like to walk down the isle to an old hymn (just the organ playing) but don’t know which one. There are soo many beautiful ones! Any ideas?
I walked down the aisle to Pachabel’s Canon in D, since the church didn’t allow “secular” music. Not quite a hymn, but not “Here Comes the Bride” either. We used “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” for the bridesmaids, and it was beautiful. All played on organ only.
I would check out “O God Beyond All Praising,” also goes by the title “Thaxted,” and if you’re familiar with Holst’s The Planets Suite, it’s the theme from the “Jupiter” section. Absolutely beautiful lyrics, and it would work very well as a fanfare/processional, too.
