    Hey ladies!

Hypothetical question: If you went to a wedding, sat at a table for 8, and there were 8 little porcelain birds scattered randomly around the centerpiece, would you take one, assuming they were favors?  Or would you assume they were just decorations?

    Thanks in advance!

If they were scattered randomly on the table I wouldn't take one unless an announcement was made or there was a note somewhere that they were the favours. They're adorable btw, I love them!

I voted for the last option because I don't like taking home favors (unless they are edible for me to eat on the way home). With that said, even if they were chocolate birds, I still wouldn't take them unless given the go ahead (i.e., announcement made, or seeing many other guests do the same).

I personally would not unless they were clearly labeled as favors or the DJ/MC directed guests to take them. However, I was at my first wedding two weeks ago where people took the centerpieces! I have only ever heard about it happening through posts on weddingbee, and I hate to say that it was members of FI's family who did it! Now I am super nervous about my own centerpieces just in case. In your case, I might be concerned because they are so easily pocketable... but then again, what are you planning to do with 8x however many tables you have birds after the wedding? They are adorable, though... I think they'd make a cute cake topper!

If they're sitting one in front of each place setting like they were meant to be favors, then yes I'd take one.  But randomly scattered and closer to the centerpieces than the place settings, I probably wouldn't even notice there were 8 and wouldn't take it.

    Thanks everyone!

@norab2684: Aren't they just TO DIE FOR!!  They are from this fabulous Etsy seller, backcreekpottery.  She is amazing to work with, very sweet.  Here is a link to her store.

@Amaryllis: The thing is that we DO want people to take them!  We are also having a chocolate truffle buffet (where people can pick 4 truffles and pack them up to take home) as the "real" favor, but don't want to end up with 180 birds at the end of the night.  So maybe instead of scattering them, we'll place one on each at each place setting, like a paperweight on top of the menu.  Thoughts?

They are cute decorations ... but I wouldn't just take one unless they were set right in front of each seat. Scattered, I would look at them and maybe play with them through dinner (what? sometimes I act like a kid :D ), but I wouldn't take it.

@anon12345: Paperweight idea would totally work and I would think that it was intended as a favor. Also, most replies seem to agree that if the DJ were to announce "please take the little bird" (well, worded better...), that would do the trick, too!

They're so cute! But I wouldn't take them unless I was told they were favours - in which case I'd love to take one home! Could you leave a note or make an announcement?

I wouldn't take the bird whether it was scattered around the centerpiece or on top of the menu unless an announcement was made.

If you are having truffles as favors, you could always reconsider the idea of using the birds as another favor and sell them after the wedding.

I second the idea for signs on the table - smoething simple and easy like "Please take a bird home with you as a memento."

I'm with PP's, would only take if instructed.. Put up some signage etc.

BUT I LOVE THEM!! I may use them as cake toppers, hehe. "Love Birds"

Those are so cute! Maybe you could stick a favor tag on them so people would know.

Thanks for all the suggestions!  We will definitely either announce or indicate somehow (with a sign or a tag) that they are for taking.  I think I prefer that over putting one at each place setting, because they look so cute grouped together, which shows off how each one is unique!

@Mrs Franks: I might use a couple to decorate my cake too!  They are tiny, only about an inch, so I'm not sure yet.

@julies1949: We thought about that, but when we decided to do edible favors, we thought it might be nice to have 2, so that our guests have something lasting to remind them of our wedding too.  I guess I could sell any that were left behind though!

Haha, I love that 2 people votes that they like to steal decorations :)

I think they are cute and would assume they were favors. I still may not take one, though, because I am not very big on wanting non-edible favors.

I wouldn't take them because I would assume they were decorations, and decorations in general are not for guests to take home. If they are intended to be favors, be prepared for most to be left behind as they don't fit into the category of favors in most people's thinking. The majority of folks don't collect that type of thing and it would end up in the trash.

Also, If Mr. Dear and I went to your wedding, we (meaning I) would make sure I got a pair that snuggles up, And I would pretend to make them kiss all the way home.

I wouldn't take them becuase I would think they were decor. Favors are not required, and people generally will not take them unless they are edible.

I would probably be wondering if I could take one, and depending if I knew the bride well ask if that was the intention.

They may be cute BUT remember that half of your guests will likely be guys that woouldn't be caught dead taking home a porcelain bird even if they did know it was a favor.  If it's truly an expression of your thanks, then you should give your guests something that most of them will like.  Most people have edible or useful favors because anything else gets left behind or thrown away.

I wouldn't take one but knowing my family (and if it were my wedding) a few would probably disappear in the assumption they were favors and for giving away

I would probably assume they were just decoration and not get one.... but if I was told they were favors I would totally take one.
