Yikes bees, I have just reached another level of cuckoo. I made my first purchase intended for something for my as-yet-nonexistent wedding a few minutes ago!
What is it? A lot of 12 antique glass buttons from eBay. I’m going to make my own dress (I’m a seamstress) and I have always loved the look of antique glass buttons– clear round ones. My dress is going to button up the back with lots of these glass buttons, and after doing some searching a little while ago I realized that the specific kind of buttons I have been envisioning are hard to come by! I found some at a good price, and snatched ’em up without thinking too much! There are not enough in this bunch to do a full dress back with, so I’m going to be stalking eBay for more of the same. YIKES!
The thing is, if I do end up changing my mind about the button idea, or (goodness forbid) I don’t get married, I can always use them on another vintagey sewing project!
What embarrassingly weddingy purchases have you ladies made recently?!

I’ve not purhased anything yet but it is hard! There’s always so may pretty ribbons, flowers, fascinators!
P.s. I just bought fabric to make my first dress by pattern: a reproduction regency era day dress. We’ll see how it goes. I can handsew and I can sometimes follow instructions. Put the to two together and we’ll see what happens! 😛

i think that is awesome that you’re going to make your own dress. can’t wait to see what it looks like when you are done making it! as for me, all i have bought so far is fabric that matches the color of my BM dresses. i’m giving them fabric to use when they look for their dress. that’s it for now but i have a feeling that those wedding purchases will become more common in the upcoming months!

I bought an amazing white dress sun dress that I thought would just be perfect for something wedding related, two years before I was engaged.
It made a lovely bridal shower dress.

@Creiddylad: At least it isn’t monogramed costers or something. 🙂 If it’s something that you hypothetically COULD use, even without a wedding, I tihnk you’re safe. 🙂

@Creiddylad: A few months ago I bought a silver sixpence from my SO’s birth year. You know.. “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a silver sixpence in her shoe”? Eh. It was a couple bucks. I don’t feel bad about it. 😛

@Asia: Yes. Except now I won another auction for 55 of the same buttons! So I’m all set for that wedding dress– or producing lots of vintage-style blouses!
@MexiPino: That’s funny! I just spent $30 on all those antique buttons (I ended up winning lots more of them, so I’m all set, and now I’m slightly freaking out about superstitions. I always said I’d never buy ANYTHING for the wedding before being engaged. Well, eBay impulse purchases, I hope you don’t have bad juju or something!)

@vorpalette: +1! Pics please!

@emmrr3: Ooooh, fun!!! I have a pattern for those dresses too, and have made a couple! They are so fun, and beautiful!
@omglauren: I’m sure pictures of its progress will be on here when I’m making it! I wish my SO would just hurry up so I could start the dress for real! (And for many other reasons, argh)
@PoppyH: Heehee, I have acquired a taste for white lacy garments in the past few months and find it hard not to buy them!
@vorpalette: Here you go: 🙂

@Creiddylad: oh wow, those buttons are gorgeous. I didnt know you’re going to be making your dress! That’s amazing. I wish I was that talented haha. I’ve been looking for specific items as opposed to ‘ideas’ lately, bookmarking exact items that I want to buy, but I havnt actually purchased anything (so far :P). So I’m right there on that crazy train with you!

@WannaBeeMrsB: I think you have so far avoided the crazy train a little better than I have. :/ I spent a lot of time a few weeks ago looking for these buttons, and didn’t find any for several days, so I figured they were hard to come by, so I just snached these up– egad, I’m freaking out slightly now.
It’s time for another little talk with my SO, particularly since (as some of you bees know) I spotted the perfect e-ring for me on Etsy last week, and there is only one of them– the stone is unique and it looks like the jeweler (Kristin Coffin) doesn’t have any more:

@Creiddylad: Love the buttons AND the ring!
At least you didn’t go nuts and buy a dress before you’re in a relationship. I worked with a girl who did that. Creeeeeeeeeeeeptastic.
