i only did the shred for one day and after that i couldn't walk very well for 4 days. it killed my knees. i've thought about trying it again but i'm scared.
Yeah, I try to not eat much before hand. :) I will say that the longer I do it, the easier it becomes.
i have the same issue with the shred! lol all of the floor exercises and just everything else makes it feel like what you ate is about to come back up (sorry sounds gross i know). if i do the shred in the morning all i eat is a cereal bar. one time i ate cereal before and all of that liquid was definitely NOT a good combination
Yes I'll admit It kicked my butt & I punked out after day 4. I need to give it another try.
i have a banana and a glass of water about 30-45 minutes before.
And keep at it... it gives great results. My sister went down a size in three weeks and I have only been doing it a week and a half and my pants are all getting baggy!
I don't eat before. I do it as soon as i wake up and eat bfast after.
ETA: The Shred is definitely a hard workout, but it's still "only" 20 minutes in terms of time. If you do it first thing in the AM, you should be fine without "fuel" beforehand.
I do the Shred regularly (I love it, but it kicks my ass even though I'm in pretty good shape). Anyways, the other day I did it around lunch time, after barely eating any breakfast in the morning. I was doing level 3, and right at the point where you do the punches with your weights I started getting all light headed, and I almost passed out. Needless to say, I felt pretty silly -- almost passing out in my living room. I think I learned my lesson that to do a midday shred, I definitely need to eat a real breakfast in the morning.
It is a lot more intense than I was expecting, especially for level 1!
I hope I can stick with it, and I definately applaud any of you who are/have stuck with it and seen results! :)
I do the same thing as others and just don't eat beforehand. I actually have problems with eating at all before any workout (insane side cramps), so I plan my workouts to happen right before meals. It works really well!
P.S. Keep up with the Shred! It only gets easier, I promise.
I would either choose to not eat anything before doing the Shred or maybe eat something like a protein bar.
I tried the Shred once and couldn't walk for a few days. Worst part was that it was the week I was moving so I had to move around a lot. I ended up giving up because at the end of the week, we found out I was preggie. It would have been too hard core for me since i wasn't doing it before the pregnancy.
I try not to eat beforehand, and if I do I always wait at least an hour before starting the workout!
And to everyone who says they were incredibly sore after the first day - the soreness does go away! I almost quit because I was so sore for the first 3 or 4 days, but after that it finally went away! Now the soreness is VERY minimal!
Haha - sorry but the title of the post made me giggle a little. ;)
I've really wanted to try either this or PX90 but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm interested to see how you like it moving forward, so keep us posted.
I used to run in the morning (in better weather) and I got the same feeling after coffee & a banana. My only suggestion for a small amount of fuel in the morning is something small & dry. I can't excersize on an empty stomach - I get lightheaded. I usually do a piece of grain toast or 1/2 a whole wheat english muffin and some Peanut butter. Good luck!! :)
Yeah, don't eat too close before! That happened to me once after dinner with level 2 where there's A LOT of up and down & plank position.
It's really intense! After the first time I tried it, my thighs were aching like crazy for the rest of the week!
Maybe try not eating anything, or if you do, stay away from milk/dairy products. It seems like milk+workout= uncomfortable results.
ewwwwww cereal before? YUCK!
Try half a banana instead. And you're supposed to eat like, 2 hours before or something. If i HAVE to eat before a work out, it's literally a bite of peanut butter or something equally small.
I just can't work out with much in my tummy. Even a glass of water before pilates wants to come up
It was the milk! It like curdles in your tummy! I can eat it for some strange reason and go run but last time FI did he threw up all over the side of the road!
I don't think it is very good to eat before you work out (obviously you have to eat something though). Try something like, I normally eat crackers before I work out, and I heard it is better to eat something healthy within the hour after you work out. I could be wrong about that though? BUT I wouldn't try something like cereal again..you may lose it. (:
I don't do the shred, but I don't eat anything right before (I eat at least 2 hours before I go to the gym), but I do drink some water/Powerade Zero before my workout, during and afterward. After my workout, I eat a Luna bar that has some carbs, some protein, etc. and wash it down with some more water or Powerade Zero. :) If I don't hydrate and avoid food beforehand, I get really sick (plus my stomach feels like a rock).
Just a thought.
Bella
I trained and ran a marathon this summer and before everyone long run I would eat a waffle with peanut butter! :)
I think you just need to space out your eating and workout. If you can't workout on an empty stomach, wait 1-2 hours before working out after eating breakfast. If you can't wait, then eat something very small, as other posters have suggested, then workout, then eat your normal breakfast.
Ok, I've never tried the Shred, so I can't help much here.... but I wanted to point out that the title of this thread gives a delightful mental image and made me giggle!
Sorry you were sick, though.... that's never good. :(

I'm not even joking, and I only did Level 1 (first day).
I think my biggest mistake was eating a bowl of cereal 30 minutes prior to.
Cereal + milk + the shred = big mistake.
So, what do you all eat (if anything) before doing a workout like the Shred? I've never felt so sick after working out before. My husband had to get me some water and sit and watch me to make sure I didn't pass out or throw up.
I don't consider myself extremely physically fit, but I'm not obese and sedentary either, but after the shred I felt like I might as well have been a 400 lb person who never gets out of the recliner. That's how hard it was.
I almost threw up.
I'm gonna do it again on Thursday :)
