Awww, I’m sorry. It’s definitely understandable for you to be upset about this. Hopefully she will be more open with you soon.

So she couldn’t celebrate passover in jamaca?  dosn’t make sense to me.  Sorry, seems like she chose a mother-daughter vacation over your wedding.  I’d be peeved.  Donno if you should talk to her about it.  She prob wouldn’t be a close friend to me anymore.  Sorry.

Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear this. It sucks that she wasn’t really upfront with you and that you had to hear from someone else. 🙁  I hope you find someone even better (and more reliable) to officiate.

@dynamic_duo: Wow, it’s really not cool how selfish and noncommunicative she is being with you. As your friend, she should respect you enough to be honest with how she is feeling, but also be willing to put her feelings aside for your one day for you, if at all possible. Again, so sorry you are having to go through this now. Even though it hurts now, I’m sure everything will turn out perfectly for your big day. A wedding in Jamaica sounds beautiful!

Forgive me for being ignorant, but why exactly does her being in Jamaica conflict with Passover? I know nothing about Passover practices, so I don’t see what the problem is. Someone please educate me as to why this would be an issue.

OP, I understand that you’ve concluded she’s just using that as an excuse, and are aware of her ‘real’ reason for being unable to attend, so sorry for the slight threadjack 🙂

@dynamic_duo: I’m sorry. It does suck when people we consider our closest friends don’t care about our wedding as much as we do. I don’t have many friends where I live anyways and a couple who I’ve know for years 10+ years and was sure they’d be there, booked a Paris vacation to coincide with our wedding because it was “chaper to go then with their miles”. I haven’t really been able to forgive and haven’t kept close contact with them since. But, such is life. I guess all of us brides need to learn that noone cares about our wedding as much as we do. Like you said, a DW even has a higher risk of people dropping out for financial or convenience reasons. It sounds like because of her personal sitiation, she might’ve been a bit resentful if she attended anyways. In that case it may be better that she’s not attending. You want to surround yourself with positive and happy people that day, not deal with a friend who’s pretending to be happy for your sake but is really hurting inside.
