- Wedding: June 2009
Jon and I have been together for 9 1/2 months. Long story short, our relationship has been nothing but spectacular and just seemed right. My family loves him and the fact that we even met is a miracle. If it hadn’t been for a push from a co-worker that I join Chemistry.com I would have never met Jon. We met one day, one day, before my membership cancelled and I did not want to renew. From there on out we spoke every day, went on our first date a week later and have seen him every weekend since (he lived 40 minutes away). Two and a half months ago we moved in together and had talked previously of marriage, but I didn’t think he would ask for quite some time. The day before my birthday he took me to a jeweler in Denver, CO (Williams Jewelers) and I got to look around the store to see what I even liked. From there we thought of an idea to use birthstones in my ring (my aquamarines and his sapphires) and Jon took it from there; however, I still didn’t know when he was going to even buy the ring.
Well, on Sunday (14th), Jon surprised me and took me to The Sunbird restaurant in Colorado Springs. It was beautiful! While we ate, rain just poured and a huge rainbow came out. Of course I had to take photographs. After dinner Jon took me to the location of our first kiss on our first date (after searching Google Earth for many days trying to find the exact spot again!). At this location you can see the entire city. He actually proposed up the hiking trail and away from the road. On the way up the trail we saw four deer grazing in the bushes. By this time I was becoming very suspicious wondering what was going to happen.
We finally stopped and turned around to see an amazing view of the area. That’s when he dropped to one knee, and after a beautiful, heartfelt speech to me (for only me to know!), he asked me to be his wife. I just cried my eyes out! He made me cry even more when he told me he had the jeweler add two small diamonds from his late grandmother’s wedding ring onto my ring and they are set as peek-a-boos on the side of the ring. The ring is beautiful! The colors are amazing. What I love most is that I have a fiance now and we are taking that next step together!!! We are so happy to say the least!
After he got up from his knee and after we were done hugging and kissing, I looked up and there was a fawn just standing there. I was speechless and it was so peaceful. On the way back down the trail the deer we saw before were even closer and they just watched us. I have never in my life been that close to deer before. You could even see their fuzz on the antlers.
Once we got back to the car, I went to call my dad and Jon told me that my dad knew he was going to ask. I inquired and he said when we were back in Kansas at the beginning of May he asked my dad if he had his blessing. My dad said of course and that would make him very happy. This made me cry more! On the way back home we stopped at Baskin Robbins for some celebratory ice cream. Sweet ending to a beautiful day.
