I went wedding dress shopping (at Pearl’s Place in Metairie), and it wasn’t anything like I imagined it would turn out to be. My consultant was very inattentive, and she didn’t make me feel special at all.
I brought some dress pictures with me (and I even emailed about 2 of them to make sure they had them). I didn’t try on ANY dress in the pictures I brought. The two I had emailed about weren’t there or she didn’t want to look for them.
I guess I went in with too many expectations. I think I pictured having a moment on SYTTD where they ask you questions about your wedding and are personable. This lady wasn’t like that at all.
Anyways, I got a dress, and I think the whole experience has just brought me down. I didn’t get that “WOW, I LOVE this dress. This is it.” moment. My mom had that, but I didn’t. I do like the dress, and I know I won’t buy another one. I just feel like the consultant kind of ruined the whole thing for me.
I shared this picture with my two MOH, and one was elated and super excited for me and the other one hardly said anything at all. So today hasn’t made me feel any better about getting a wedding dress. I’m supposed to be excited about it, and I’m just not.
Here’s my dress. What do you think? I had no idea who the designer was or what the style number was until I agreed to purchase it. Evidently it’s an older style, not that it matters, but I didn’t like that I had no clue what it was.

I’m so sorry you don’t like it as much as you thought you might, but I LOVE it on you! You look absolutely beautiful. The scalloped neckline is really unique and makes the dress feel so romantic!

I love the train and you have an amazing figure which the dress shows very well. I don’t see why you hurried into buying. You should have gone to other stores to get treatment you wanted. But congrats, it is beautiful.

I really love that dress especially on you! I am sorry your expereince wasn’t that great. To be honest though, the expereience doesn’t matter as much as finding a great dress. I went to pleanty of stores with very nice consultants and I always left completely dissappointed because I couldn’t find a dress. I never had a ‘this is my dress’ moment either, but I have a dress that looks good on me and was at a good price point and that I liked more than any of the other dresses I tried on.

I bought my dress from pearls place yesterday! I was also REALLY disappointed by the girl that helped me. I felt like i was annoying the girl. And whenever i didn’t like a dress i felt like the girl got insulted.

It’s super pretty! I love the lace and it makes your waist so so small!

Aw, I’m sorry to hear the experience wasn’t that great! But, I will say that I think you made out–the silver lining to the situation is that you got a really beautiful dress. It looks gorgeous on you!

The dress, no matter the year or designer, is really quite lovely. It looks like it fits you well (assuming it is not clamped) and it must have been a steal for you to purchase under such disappointing circumstances. If you decide you are not happy with it, you can always sell it and purchase another, assuming you have the time. I always feel like I want to buy from the most helpful sales reps and that their smiling faces almost make me more excited about their selection. You don’t need an unfavorable memory attached to your dress, but if you can get over it, the dress is gorgeous. Plus, you can still have fun shopping for accessories! 🙂

@heather5743: It’s shows off your figure, good choice. Sorry to hear your dress experience wasn’t as fun as you expected but I think most if not all of us have had a similar experience. Your dress looks beautiful on you.

Thanks so much for making me feel better everyone!! I really do like the dress. I just think the consultant was not what I was expecting and that has overshadowed the fact that I bought my wedding dress. I’m sure in a few months when it comes in that’ll all be a thing of the past, and I won’t focus on it anymore. It’s just been bothering me these last two days.
I’m so glad no one is saying it’s hideous or I should have found something else!

Its sooo sooo beautiful! And it fits you really well.
Just remember that everyone has different ideas of what they feel a wedding dress should be. I chose an all lace dress with straps when showing it to people I got very different reactions -some people love lace, some people hate it. A friend of mine who’s reaction was less than I love it (she actually responded “wait so you bought it already?”) chose a very big traditional ball gown -its lovely, but clear evidence that we have different taste. So, it really only mattersh how you look and feel in your dress!

@kermie: THIS! I remember stupidly showing my friends some of my choices and they were less than thrilled. I even put up posts on the bee and folks were all over the place. I decided to go back shopping ALONE and then bought my dress and didn’t even show anyone. And guess what? I’m happy. To the OP, please don’t let the salesperson’s lack of enthusiasm get to you. Your dress looks very beautiful. I have heard of Pearl’s Place. I’m sure you got a great deal too 🙂
