Anyone suggest having a backyard wedding reception? (It's on 2 acres surrounded by trees) Will the costs be higher or lower than renting a location in the DC metro area?
Hi all! I live in NYC but am getting married in Leesburg 6/14!
Trini, about back yard weddings: think about the sewage situation. Most houses can't handle a lot of guests and you have to bring in porta-potties. I know they make nice ones with running water and A/C (for $1000 each)...but it wasn't something I wanted at my wedding. Just a thought!
Hi, I live in Columbia, MD, and I am getting married in Annapolis in November.
Hi everyone! I live in Germantown, Maryland and I am getting married in Mount Airy, Maryland in September 2008!
Hi! I live in Alexandria and am getting married in Amherst, MA in August!
Trini, I think you could potentially save a lot of money doing a wedding in a backyard, and if it is a small wedding maybe the toilet situation would be fine, but there are also lots of interesting options for small (even medium, but I don't know about more than maybe 150-200 people) weddings in the area that are nice as well. In this case you could look at renting historic homes from the counties (Prince William, Prince George's, or Fairfax too but you have to live there or have a friend who lives there - also other historical places like the Athenaeum which one of the Bees was recently married in! I can't remember off the top of my head who but it's very pretty!)
In response to katze's post,
We looked into renting a historic mansion and anyone interested can see the ones in prince george's county here and it lists rental prices.

We also looked at some in Howard county, and found the rates to be from $1500 to 2000 for most places.
Just FYI!
Hello ladies,
I am TEN DAYS away from my wedding - May 24th.
i just got an email from my photog that he is not dead - he did not contact us for 4 months AND changed his number so we thought gosh i hope he is not dead cause if he is we are gonna sue his arse...lol! Anyhow, I did a TON of research on venues, party rentals, flower supplies, photography, etc all to be super budget conscience without sacrificing style and class so any newbees out there just getting started can def PM me - I would love to help a gal out. Good luck everyone - I second the "lets get together and do lunch" idea.
my goodness i am about to be someone's WIFE!
Hi everyone! I live in Georgetown and I'm getting married in Philly next weekend!
Hi! I live in Lorton, VA, and I'm getting married in Puerto Rico (our hometown) on July 27. Planning long distance haven't been the easiest, and at 2 months to go I'm a little scared of all the little things I might be forgetting that could pop up at the last minute.
Hi! We live in DC and are getting married here in the District as well. Our wedding is in November which has helped us negotiate a lot of vendor discounts, and for those of you who haven't found this site yet, it is the best EVER for local reviews:
www.dcknottiereview.com
It's an easy compilation of bios of DC knotties that can be sorted by type of vendor. We have seriously found nearly every single one of our vendors on there and it has been an absolute lifesaver.
Recently moved from MD to PA, but still MD by heart!
We are getting married next July in Hollywood, MD at Greenwell State Park by the water.

A curious question for all the DC brides: Are you really supposed to invite the current President if you get married in DC? If so, are you going to break this etiquitte or follow it?
I know you get a letter from his office offering congratulations which could make for a nice scrapbook entry, depending on whether or not you like the current prez....
