Ok so there are two dead mice in traps in my office today. One right near my desk. One right near the only other person who works here's desk. She is part-time and not in today. I cannot even psych myself up enough to through the traps away (they are black discs and I cannot see the dead mouse or anything. It just has an idicator that says caught so I know there is one in there.

FREAKING OUT. Again. These mice are so flipping brazen. One crawled right onto my lap.

At this point, I feel as though I may have a nervous breakdown over these dirty little rodents. Please just pray that this stops. I can't sleep because I feel them crawling on me.

Ewww that is not pleasant - I am sorry!

At least they can't get out of the disc. Could you use a dustpan or something to throw them out?

So in case anyone is keeping track, we are now up to four mice.

I have permission to call an exterminator but the guy who does all our building stuff told me I'd be better off just buying my own traps at the hardware store again. We cannot use poison because there are many children that come into this office-especially those with special needs.

I feel like such a baby but this is such a phobia of mine. Mice carry all sorts of germs and I have a daughter at home. I'll already used so much Lysol and bleach that I'm amazed those little f-ers are still alive.

@Future Mrs. Martin: Hmm the dustpan just might work.

@ejs4y8: I used to similiar to you would in your own kitchen. Nothing out and open but there would be a sealed bag of chips in my drawer. No everything is locked up in the cabinets which they seem to not be able to get into. I met to grab FI's igloo cooler to bring in today but I forgot.

Man, I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this, but maybe it'll make for a funny story down the road?

In all seriousness, though, I remember in your previous thread, someone mentioned calling the health department about all the mice (sorry, I don't remember if you said that you would/were or not) and given that you just said there are children coming in and out of the office, I'd say this is definitely grounds for calling the health dept in. Germy mice + kids = no bueno. I like mice, so it wouldn't be a big deal to me, but it is to you, and that's what's important.

The board of health gave me recommendations for getting rid of them but they were the same ones I am getting from everyone else :(

@SoontobeMrsA: Board of Health gets a big fail :(

Good luck, hon. Borrow a cat or a dog or something. Jack Russels are usually good mousers. Or, maybe look into one of those things that plug in to the wall and emit a high pitched frequency that deters pests. Idk if they work well or not, but it'd be worth a shot.

haha I bought one of those noise things but I can hear it! It's driving me nuts but that's still way better than having a mouse near me!

The Board of Health would not shut us down for the mice because it's actually fairly common around here right now. It is so bitterly cold out and there is feet of snow outside so there are nowhere for them to go.

We do not serve food nor are we a public institution. I don't want us to get in any trouble. I love this place and I love my kids here.

I just want the mice gone.

At least they are dead this time instead of alive and sitting in your lap!

In all seriousness though, that sucks and I hope you can get rid of the mice soon so you can work in peace.

So it's been two hours and I still cannot manage to dispose of the used traps. I just can't psych myself up to do it. I am so so disgusted.

Oh and I have this fancy mousepad I had made of me and my daughter in Disney. The pic is copyrighted and no longer available through Disney (they suck at that part) so it's not like I can get another. I have been hiding it in the fridge for fear the mice would get it.

I just got an email from our maintenance department; they said they got this new product in, and asked if I wanted them to put some in my office.  I thought of you.  ;)  Here it is:

I'd just be worried about what they're tracking inside... like fleas! You're not being a baby, it's filthy. Can the maintenance people throw away the traps?

@Mrs. Spring: I was just about to post about the CAB product.  My mom's house had a problem for a bit with mice from the insane drought that we were having in Houston, so I went online and bought some of those CAB bags.  It seemed like it worked for us pretty well.  I remember that the first night that we put tossed some bags into the attic it made the mice go WILD.  There was activity everywhere!!  We could hear all sort of scurrying inside the walls and stuff.  It took maybe a week or two, but it cleared them out of her house.  I think the last couple we caught in traps.

I'd call the exterminator anyway. Even if he doesn't use poison, he can seek out any nests the little buggers may have set up and get rid of them so the problem doesn't keep...er...multiplying.

And I agree with PP, if there are kids in this building a lot, that's even more reason to have a professional come in. Rodent poop isn't good for anyone, but it's especially bad that it's around children.

omg this could be my office!!!

It's so gross... except when my rats/mice finally kick the bucket, they happen to always die in the walls or ceiling where we can't get them. And then they smell so bad!!! I hate my building! We also aren't allowed to use poison by law, but I don't believe baiting them does any good.
