Went to David’s with my mom yesterday armed with a list of dresses I wanted to try including my favorite. While we were chatting I told the consultant my favorite fabric for gowns was Chiffon, that I didn’t like Satin, and I would likely be adding a strap or sleeve to a gown for my comfort.
Tried my favorite on first – in what had to be the smallest dressing room EVER (after some hilarity involving the longline bra. If you’re a ‘spinner’ as my gram called it when putting on your bra every day, trying to put a longline on by yourself in a tiny room with no mirrors is impossible 😉 ) and walked out to take a peek.
I liked it, but must have been making a face as I’m not good at envisioning things – and I couldn’t figure out what it would look like with a strap.
I had spent a lot of time on the David’s website and knew they had a beaded cap sleeve strap or an ugly short or long sleeve.
The consultant offered to get the seamstress so she could show me what she could do. And she came back with a chiffon flutter sleeve!
My ‘dream’ dress was a Destinations Maggie Sottero with flutter sleeves, but I didn’t have enough time to order it and no stores in a 4 state radius had it for me to try on, plus I would need to alter the v neck to make it a little less ‘boobalicious’.
The sleeves made all the difference in the world – it just LOOKS like a dress I would wear. My mom started laughing immediately saying that was a ‘Me’ dress now.
I tell you no photo does justice of this dress. The pictures they use on their website are terrible, it was only after reading all the reviews at the bottom and seeing the dress on real brides that I knew I wanted it. It’s style 9743.
That said, here’s a pic from my mom’s blackberry (since mine was buried in the pit of the dressing room!):
I wish my mom had taken a better one instead of one as I was walking towards her so you can’t really see the fit of the bodice, but this is a very flattering gown.
Here’s the Sottero I loved:
The dress should be in by April 21st, which is AWESOME. I was stressed I wouldn’t get one in time for alterations for my June 25th wedding, but it should be perfect.
I had a good experience at David’s, despite the small dressing room and no podium things to stand on. My mom found, tried on, and bought a dress for her before I was even in the dressing room! We were out within 25 minutes 🙂
It’s too bad they don’t advertise these sleeves, I’m sure many brides would love to have a prettier or different option.
It looked fine strapless, and I can see how it may possibly be more flattering, but you look best when you are comfortable and confident and that’s how it made me feel 🙂
The only thing I didn’t love about David’s was that the consultant and her manager thought I should buy the longline bra I had tried on. It had boning in it and you could pretty clearly SEE it through the gown, especially at the bottom edge of it. They were also a little put off that I didn’t buy the $169 veil they put on my head.
While I loved it, I knew I could find one like it elsewhere for far less.
So yay! I have a dress. I can sleep once again and spend all my stressbank on something else 🙂
Thanks for letting me share!
