Waaaaaaaaa. I’m looking for some major encouragement here.
I ordered my dress in November. Tried on the sample (size 10). It zipped, but was a little snug. Got measured at a 12. Ordered a 10 to motivate myself to get to the gym (I know, I know, stupid idea).
So I got the call in January that my dress was in. I was dreading trying it on because I knew I wasn’t where I wanted to be weight-wise. My Bridesmaid or Best Man came down from another province this week and needed to be fitted for her dress, so I told her that I would try on my dress to show her (she wasn’t able to make it down when I was trying on dresses). Now, I knew it wasn’t going to zip before I even saw it, so I told the consultant so she wouldn’t have a heart-attack and expect me to melt down. But I was thinking maybe the last 2 inches wouldn’t zip… Wrong. It zips like half-way up my back. I guess I didn’t take into consideration that the sample was stretched out from others trying it on.
Now, I know I’m not royally screwed. She said that it can be turned into a corset no problem, which is why I’m not completely freaking out. But as much as I like what corset-backs do for my body, I really want to keep those buttons. They look so nice with the lace.
So I started back at the gym this week. I’m going at least 3 times a week. Cutting out coffee, drinking more water, staying away from bread/pasta/sugars. Just eating lean proteins, fruit, and veggies. My wedding is in 6 months. I’m 5’9” and weigh about 165 lbs.
Please be honest here. I think I can do it, so does my Bridesmaid or Best Man. So does my Fiance but he thinks I can do no wrong, so he doesn’t count. I’m too ashamed to tell anyone else. Do you think I’ll ever be able to get into that dress with the changes I’m making? I’m willing to work for it, I just need some more people to convince me that I’m not insane trying to do this. Thanks everyone. I’m going to go cry into a pillow now… and then go to the gym, haha.

@BP2Be: Awwwwww. It’s NOT stupid to order a dress size smaller. i know it’s not what consultants recommend, but I feel like sometimes that’s what people need to motivate themselves to work out and eat more healthily. One of my BMs was a size 16 when she got measured, but she ordered a 12 because she said being in my wedding was a good motivation to finally lose the weight she’s been wanting to lose for 3 years now. She’s been going on the treadmill 40 minutes a day four days a week, and is actually eating more healthily, and she has lost 16 pounds so far in 3 months, so you can do it!!!!!! I KNOW you can!!!!! 🙂

You have until September – there is totally time for you to look amazing in your dress AND keep your buttons. It sounds like you’re already off to a great start – I know how awful it must feel to have the dress not fitting, but it’s SO much easier to keep working out and eating well when you’re feeling positive and motivated. And allow yourself the occasional treat or day of slacking off without beating yourself up about it, it’ll make things a lot easier.
And even though I know you can totally lose the weight by September…just saying, there is always Spanx – they made a huge difference in my size, I was also between a 10 and 12 but I ordered the 12, and my seamstress actually had to tell me I couldn’t wear Spanx because she couldn’t get the corset laces tight enough with them on (although I did buy a sample, so I’m sure it did have some stretching.) And make sure you’re adjusting the girls, if you know what I mean…my youngest Bridesmaid or Best Man, one of my cousins, was freaking about her dress not fitting. Once I had her bend over and sdjust, it zipped up perfectly!

In 5 ish months (need time for any alterations to be made) you can definitly lose 20ish lbs (about what you’ll need to get that dress to zip up and be comfortable!) without killing yourself over exercise or starving. That’s only 1 lb a week, you can definitely do it!

You have plenty of time to drop 5-10 pounds. Just et healthy and exercise. Worst comes to worst just have the dress let out or altered.

@BP2Be: First of all, I’m sorry youre going through this! You sound like you’re on the right track but wanted to offer some tips.. First of all, the diet sounds good. To lose a lot of weight fast you might want to consider dropping all carby stuff and doing a paleo-like diet. This Whole 30 diet is popular: http://whole9life.com/category/whole-30/. You cut out all sugar, alcohol, grains. As for the work out, I’d recommend doing 2 days of cardio and 2 days of weights. For the cardio do intervals: 2 mins fast/1 min slow kind of thing for 45-50 mins. This has worked for me in the past! Good luck! I’m sure you’ll look beautiful no matter what!

You can totally do it! The area where it didn’t zip up is right around your boobs and ribcage too. I know when I lost weight, that was one of the first places to go. Instantly (like within the first 5-10 lbs) my bra band size went from 38 to 34, but my cup size stayed the same so don’t worry.
Drink a TON of water. When my weightloss hasn’t budged in a week or two it’s usually because I’ve cheated on drinking water. I drink one 16.9 oz bottle (the normal bottle size, I guess) before and after every meal. Six bottles of water a day! I chug one, eat breakfast (while sipping another just for drinking purposes) then chug another right after. It’s also great for feeling full, or when you have that bored hungry-but-not-really feeling. Repeat for lunch and dinner. You’ll piss like every 10 minutes for the first couple days, but after your water weight is all out it’s amazing how many lbs and inches you’ll lose.

You can do it! The key things are to cut out processed carbs (white bread, alcohol, refined sugars) and fried stuff! Veggies and grilled lean meat/protein are your friend! Don’t go out to eat cause it’s all bad at restaurants.
Working out is really important too, but remember that ~80% of weight loss is diet.
