So as you might have figured, I’m engaged! Still feels a bit surreal, but very exciting and I’m sure it will sink in properly soon.
It happened last Saturday. I knew we were staying at a hotel in the city just to have a break together. Although I suspected there was a chance he would propose, I never expected everything that was waiting for me. My gorgeous new fiance had planned a whole afternoon as a surprise for me, taking me to 4 surprise locations over the day. He wouldn’t give anything away, excpt for handing me 7 typed notes throughout the day to hint at where we were going next. He instructed me what to pack before sending me for a massage, which I really neede by then because I was stressing out that it was really happening! After he met me with a picnic lunch. Thankfully it was great weather.
We headed out to a nearby garden when he revealed our destination was actually the art gallery next to it. We spent a few hours wandering around the gallery and relaxing together, before heading to our hotel where he’d unpacked all our gear in our room. There his next note told me to be ready to go out to dinner (in the dress he warned me to pack) and we arrived at a fancy hotel that overlooks the city.
After a beautiful dinner he suggested a walk to the lookout where you get a beautiful view of the river and city lights. He handed me the last note which was blank. He dropped to one knee, opened the ring box and was so emotional he could hardly get the words out. But finally he said “will you marry me!”
Of couse I immediately said yes and we had a beautiful cuddle before putting on my new ring.
Back at the hotel he brought out a special bottle of wine he’d snuck into his suitcase. It was given to us by his family about a year ago to drink once we were engaged. He just kept surprising me! The hotel is nothing fancy, but sentimental to us because of past times we’ve stayed there and it was such a nice relaxing place to go back to and chat about our future that is now becoming a reality! I was so excited it happened after waiting for what felt like so long and very impressed that he put together such a thoughtful day for us to share.
Hopefully you can see the pics ok! I haven’t had a chance to take better ones yet. We had the ring custom made. I wanted a marquise aquamarine halo and he chose the band after I pointed out one that tapered towards the centre. The aquamarine is lighter in colour than it looks in the photos.
Thanks to everyone for being part of such a great website and for giving so much support while I was waiting!
