Our honeymoon is finally here. Tomorrow evening we board a flight to Tanzania.
We've been looking forward to this for so long, I cannot believe it's finally here.
8 days on safari and 6 days on the beaches of Zanzibar await us. We are even going to get SCUBA certified while we are there.
I'm glad we waited for a bit after our wedding to take our honeymoon.
Plus it's so nice to head somewhere warm in the middle of cold dreary February.
I am just SO excited!!!
We're pretty much packed and have no idea whether we have what we need or not, but I'm sure we'll be fine.
I feel all giddy and have butterflies!
YAY!! How exciting. It's going to be an awesome, unforgettable trip. I took almost the same trip a few years ago, and Tanzania is one of my absolute favorite countries in Africa now. I'm jealous! :-) and psyched for you. Have fun!
I am so jealous!! Do you guys get to go on a safari? Bc then I am REALLY jealous!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope you have a great time!! :)
ETA: If I would read slower you wrote you were going on an 8 day safari... MAN I AM SO JEALOUS!!! please post pics when you come back
@stillme: I've never been anywhere in Africa and Tanzania looks so nice.
@MrsPom: Yup! We are spending 8 days on safari spending no more than 2-3 nights in each place. Including those awesome luxury tented camp sites and a game lodge where each room is it's own little tree house.
That is so awesome! I've loved my time in Africa and I hope you will too!!!! Enjoy the adventure!!!
@pinkshoes: Oh don't worry, I'll probably end up doing just as many recaps of the honeymoon as I did of the wedding!
We even got new cameras just for the trip.
That sounds so incredible, I think you should stuff me in your carry-on! Seriously a bit envious of your travels lately, lady, living in the UK, going to Paris for the weekend......we should be friends IRL and I'll come visit!
But really, have a fantastic time and bring back pictures of wild animals!
@hisgoosiegirl: I guess I have been living a bit of a "charmed" life lately. I definitely feel very lucky.
Have SO much fun!!! I can't wait to see pictures, I've always wanted to go to Africa so I'll live vicariously through you until I do go!
Please update us on your trip afterwards! I would love to hear all about it and plan to do something like this in the near future!
Stay safe & have a blast!!!
T
WHAT A DREAM! Have a great time and I look forward to reading all about it! That's one of my dream trips right there--I've only ever made it to northern Africa. Be safe!
yayyayyay!! Can't wait to hear all about it. Have so much fun and definitely, definitely post recaps :)
@MrsNeutrino: We will be there during the great migration. I'm hoping to get some awesome photos.
Wow, what an amazing trip! I really wish I could do something like that. Still don't know where we are going! Have a great time!!!
How exciting!! I hope you have a ton of fun and make sure to take plenty of pictures!! Have a safe trip. =)
What an amazing honeymoon! I hope you'll share some pictures and stories when you get back. Have fun!
So exciting!!! I can't wait to see the pictures of the safari & the tents you're staying in!!
I am super jealous! Have a safe trip and you better reacp your bunz off when you get back!
@panterapeach: Oh I will! I'll probably recap so much you guys will get tired of it!
@Ms. Martian: The tented camps look SO cool. Here's a photo I found online of where we are staying (but I will take my own photos and post when I get back):

Eek! Please update us (or at least me!:D) later as that combination (Tanzania+ Zanzibar) is one we are seriously considering:D
@redband: I definitely will! Look for recaps when I get back and if you have any other questions feel free to PM me.
I know I got a lot of info on Africa travel in general from another bee who honeymooned there a year or so ago.
@KatNYC2011: YAY! So excited for you! That is going to be one amazing trip and to see the Great Migration is going to be incredible! I did an 8 day safari in Kenya and the Masai Mara (which of course turns into the Serengeti on the Tanzania side of the border) and it is far and away one of the coolest places on the planet. I can't wait to see your pics when you're back! Enjoy every second of your honeymoon!!!!
p.s. Isn't living the 'charmed' life in London just the best??? I loved my 3 years there - weekend trips to Paris, Rome, Norway etc, easy access to Africa, Asia, and all of Europe. And just living in London - nothing beats it. Enjoy your charmed life - wish we were still there! :-)
So jelous. We were also researching tanzania for our honeymoon, then we saw the price tag.
Have fun, will look for a post about your trip when you get back.
Have fun hun!!! You know I live vicariously through you so I can't wait to see the pics!
@Ree723: I've heard nothing but great things about Kenya/Tanzania so I cannot wait. Being in London does open up SO many travel options, it it awesome and we are trying to take advantage of it as money and time allows.
@Atalanta: Yeah, it is definitely the trip of a lifetime, but it is somethinge we've always wanted to do. Also, FIL was very generous and got us our flights for a wedding present (so that helped a lot).
@tksjewelry: There will definitely be pics when I get back. I'll just have to figure how to transfer the photos off our new cameras.
Kat - first of all I hope you're having a blast. Second, I spent 2 weeks in Tanzania a few years ago (did the safari and also stayed in Zanzibar) so I look forward to hearing about your experience!!
We got back Friday night and the trip was amazing, completely beyond any expectations.
Between Dh and I we took over 5,000 pictures. Once we sort through them all I will post recaps.
But for anyone considering going to Africa (especially Tanzania) you MUST go if you can.
The safari was amazing, Zanzibar was amazing, AND we got SCUBA certified while there.
Anyway... all our accomodations were phenomenal.
Here's one photo of our "treehouse" hut for our first two nights on safari:
Also, we were able to get pretty darn close to the animals:
I promise full recaps (if you want) once we get our thousands of photos in order.
I can't wait to see all of the photos. I did safari in Kenya in 2002 and my little sister is living in South Africa right now studying great white sharks so we hope to get over there in 2013 for our honeymoon to visit her and I'm hoping we might be able to safari in a different country while we are there, too.
More pics fooorrr sure! Look how close you are to him? Wow!!!! Im so glad to hear you had a fantastic time!
