I had this ring designed for my fiancée and had it made from recycled gold and stones.  The sapphire and one of the diamonds are new.  Everything else is recycled from pieces from my family.  Iknew she didn’t want a diamond solitaire or halo, but rather a Victorian style ring.  Some people don’t like it, I’m sure, but no one’s ever told her that they didn’t like it.  I mean, who would insult someone’s engagement ring.

If it’s the ring YOU want, then it is the right ring.

I think that’s too much for a .2 ct yellow sapphire.  I love sapphires though.

Check out http://www.thenaturalsapphirecompany.com for some lovely loose sapphires (if you can budge a little to 1000 you can get certain colors at about 1 ct).  My boyfriend got me a lovely blue sapphire on here. 🙂

well everyone has different styles and tastes so the important thing here is that you love it.

@StormtrooperInLove:  you could always buy a cheap gemstone ring and test it out (then keep it as a rhr) if you’re not sure how much you’ll like the sapphire? I love gemstone rings, but if you’ve always imagined a diamond and your BF isnt sold then you might be disappointed. The yellow sapphire will probably look much like a yellow diamond though – maybe that’s a plus? It sounds like a beautiful ring! I’m not surprised you keep going back to se it.

ETA: @Duncan:  wow, that is one gorgeous ring!

@StormtrooperInLove:  If there is a part of you that thinks that in the long run you won’t love it for feel fulfilled with it (likewise for your FI it seems), then maybe you should ask for the ring as an anniversary gift, not an engagement ring. I have a moissanite e-ring, and although I love it and recommend it to a lot of people, I always recommend it with the disclaimer that it isn’t diamond, & if what you want is diamond, it doesn’t matter how pretty something else it, it won’t make you happy. I think the sentiment is the same in this situation.

@StormtrooperInLove:  See your PM’s.  I told you some more detail about getting it done 🙂

And it was a whole family effort.  My sister offered up an earring from a favourite set of hers, shaped like cats, to which she’d long since lost the mate.  But she’d kept because she liked it so much, and I was touched that she gave it for the cause. 🙂

@StormtrooperInLove:  As someone mentioned earlier, only go for it if it is something you would actually like.  If you’re down with the sapphires, then definitely check it out.  They have a whole range of loose stones that they can set for you or you can have set elsewhere and already set rings (go with the loose stones 😉 ).

PROTIP: Blues are more expensive because they’re so popular, so don’t be thrown off by going to blues first.  Check out all the pretties. 🙂

@StormtrooperInLove:  I think it’s pretty. I want an emerald eternity ring so it’s not all about diamonds!

I think it is gorgeous! What do you think? The only thing that matters is if you love it. If you do, I say go for it! 🙂
