We are having a beach wedding. Our cake will have adriondack (sp?) chairs on top. I am thinking about using a white chair, along with a sand dollar or starfish and a tag with their name on it as a place card/favor. We are having a small wedding (20 people?) so it wouldn’t be a huge expense, but I’m wondering if its just going to be another thing people throw away. I hate to waste money on stupid stuff. I know the moms and my friend would keep them, just not sure about a few other guests. Watcha think?

With only 20 people, maybe ask a few and see what they would think.

I like the idea of the shell…sand dollars can look really really cute as escort/place cards! I don’t know how expensive it would really be to buy some…
One more suggestion…if you are suspecting that they are going to throw them away anyway…perhaps you could turn it into a fun part of the wedding…by making them throw it away! Follow me here…I’ve seen some people do this. Of course, you could use other shells as well, but I’ve seen brides ask their guests to go to the water with a shell and make a wish for the couple, and then throw the shell in the water. Kind of cheesy, but also kind of cute. And, if you were able to write your name/wedding date/something like that on the shell with permanent marker, I just think that would be so interesting if someone later were to find that shell on the beach…

I like the idea of a shall as a place card holder, but I would probably throw away any favor like that. I think KatieBug’s suggestion of having them “wish” on the shells is really cute and would be a fun way to get everyone involved!

Maybe use the chairs as place card holders and attach a little bag of shells made out of chocolate so it’s cute for the place cards, and you get to eat the candy.
