Anyone with any alteration experience? I went in for my first dress fitting yesterday knowing I wanted a true sweetheart neckline added to my lace dress. I get it on and ask about it and the tailor tells me she can’t do that because of the lace at the neckline. She pins it in the middle and tells me she can stitch it there to create a dipped look. Is this really all she can do? Or is she just not wanting to mess with it? I had to drive four hours to get there and do this by myself and today I’m feeling a little sick about it. It doesn’t make much sense…

Can you take some pictures of your dress to a few local semstresses to see what they have to say?

I assume the lace comes to a natural end at the neckline or some sort of detail? I guess you could have it folded over but she probably assumes you want to keep whatever detail is at the neckline

It will really depend on the lace. Mine could only come down a bit; it’s more than a swoop, but it’s not anywhere near a full sweatheart.

Maybe post a picture of the top of your dress so we can get a visual? I’d take it around to other seamstresses & get their opinion.

I have seen added sweethearts go so wrong. Someone was trying to sell a used lace Maggie Soterro with an added sweetheart neckline and I winced when I saw the picture.
It’s possible that it just can’t be done.
ETA: But it’s not a bad idea to get a second opinion!
