I have gained a solid 7+ pounds this holiday season. ACK!!! I thought I threw out most of the junk food earlier today, but I had a glass of wine (and once I have one glass, I need another and another and I get the munchies) and then I found some Russell Stover truffles and a small bag of chips. The bottle of wine is now gone and I cant believe I let this happen again. I hate the holidays because its the perfect excuse to eat…I’m ready for my routine back, but that wont come until the week of the 5th. How on earth do you relax without eating and drinking because obviously I still haven’t learned self-control. I havent made a “rant” post in a while, so thanks for reading lol… Maybe I need to stop drinking?
AND I want to run a half marathon and lose (now a total of) 20lbs in 2014..and I want to start RIGHT NOW, but I cant get past the mental hurdle that its still 2013 and I dont get my routine back for another week. Grr. So Frustrating!

@sheepandbear: Yes, lol- stop drinking!
Throw out all the crap food in your house and bring NOTHING but good food in the house. This is the only way my SO and I are able to stay on track on our diet, lol.
That’s how you get self-control, is to not have it around initially. And after you’ve ‘cleansed’ from junk food, you’ll crave it less.
We also go to the gym together. So- when he gets dressed to go to the gym, so do I, and we carpool.
You can do this!

Before the holidays we had no junk food at all in the apartment, but I’m a teacher (with 125 kids I see every day) and a lot of them brought me food/junk/cookies/candy as gifts. That was the worst part, I *had* to bring it home. What time of the day do you go to the gym and what kind of exercise do you usually do?

@chic_and_fabulous: I wrote a reply for you, but forgot to tag you. Its comment #4. 🙂
@chelseakayd: I love it! We can do it, right?

I also gained quite a bit during the holidays. I normally try to limit carbs and all that got tossed aside for the holidays. I baked my ass off and consumed way too many holiday goodies. I try not to stress too much about it. January is when we can atone for our culinary sins.

@trueblue14: hehehehe. that made me giggle out loud.

@sheepandbear: As someone who loves food and drink more than is healthy, I feel for you!
I also started training for my first half marathon in January of 2013, and ran it in May (and got married the following Saturday!). I even did a second half marathon at 19 weeks pregnant!
The best thing you can do (I think) is just to start running now. When you run long distance, any crap you eat will make you feel like DEATH during your long runs. It’s the WORST feeling.
But it’s a REALLY good reason to eat healthy.

@sheepandbear: You poor thing! Is there like- ANYONE that you can give the packaged junk food to?
When I had hours like you, we would go to the gym from 5-6:30ish.
When I’m not working, we go from 11a-12:30ish and eat a delayed lunch.
What I personally do: 15 minutes on treadmill, 15 minutes on bicycle, 15 minutes on elliptical. Ab exercises (daily), and machines for legs/glutes (every other day)
I personally get bored being on a machine for longer than 15 minutes, that’s my incentive to do something different and keep up the cardio 🙂

@chic_and_fabulous: Hah, not anymore becasue I ate it all My apartment complex has a gym that I drive by once I enter the complex after work. I might take my clothes with me and stop there after work so I’m done by the time I even get home.

OMG me too!!! I am starting to freak out since the wedding is only 4 months away. I am back to work tomorrow and I have decided that I will do a 5K walk around the downtown river pathways every lunchhour instead of going to the mall and eating a cupcake which is my usual MO. And I will be walking to and from work every day too – no more Car2Go!! I am also planning to start bringing baby carrots to work with me for snacking and a water bottle to have with me at all times. I feel sick from all this holiday eating. Ugh.

@sheepandbear: I totally feel your pain- I’ve gained way too much this holiday season:( I’m 26 weeks pregnant, but there is only so much I can blame on the baby! Healthy eating starts tomorrow…

@sheepandbear: The holidays don’t count! haha but seriously don’t dwell on what has already happened…I overindulged as well but am not going ot beat myself up about it. Tuesday is NYE just toss all the ‘good’ stuff and start fresh then 🙂 That is what I am doing. I have panicked earlier about -omg i ate so much im so fat- but truth be told…Self loathing gets you nowhere!!

I always eat way too much over the holidays. At home we keep have barely any junk food and we keep our cabinets stocked with fruits, veggies, and healthy snacks. We go back to our parent’s for about a week and I pig out on all the junk food because I’m so excited to have it around. *sigh* I do this every year and feel guilty (as I sit here eating chips).
We’re going back home tomorrow but I’m sure I will pig out on NYE again so my plan is to get back on track on Thursday. Usually the extra weight from the holidays just melts off but it’s really hard getting back into that healthy routine.

I’ve definitely over-indulged as well, but I was proud of myself for avoiding eating totally mindlessly – like I made a point not to eat dessert at the work Xmas potluck, and I’ve resisted some of my mom’s cookies. I’ve tried to only eat stuff I really want, with varying degrees of luck haha.
