    I've conquered pot roast.
I've taken on apple sauce and walked away victorious...

...But the perfect hot chocolate/cocoa recipe continues to allude me. So I turn to the Hive for help.

Please post your recipes for hot chocolate and hot cocoa! It's so delicious and I'm so very chilly!

Boil water.  Open hot chocolate package from box.  Pour powder mix into water and stir.  Add marshmellows if I'm in the mood.

Haha - I've never actually seen hot chocolate not made from a store bought pouch so if anyone could enlighten me, I'll gladly give it a try too!

Ive never tried to make it before but allrecipies has a recipe that looks really good and is rated pretty high.

    http://allrecipes.com//Recipe/creamy-hot-cocoa/Detail.aspx

    Ingredients

    • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
    • 3/4 cup white sugar
    • 1 pinch salt
    • 1/3 cup boiling water
    • 3 1/2 cups milk
    • 3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1/2 cup half-and-half cream

    Directions

    1. Combine the cocoa, sugar and pinch of salt in a saucepan. Blend in the boiling water. Bring this mixture to an easy boil while you stir. Simmer and stir for about 2 minutes. Watch that it doesn't scorch. Stir in 3 1/2 cups of milk and heat until very hot, but do not boil! Remove from heat and add vanilla. Divide between 4 mugs. Add the cream to the mugs of cocoa to cool it to drinking temperature.

@Coleerenee: Ooooooh please do! I would love to give it a whirl. I'm always a little disappointed with my hot chocolate.

@panterapeach: Nice. I'll need to give that a try tonight.

We either melt chocolate chips or use cocoa powder with sugar in warm milk.  One of my favorites is to mix in some white chocolate chips with the cocoa melt and a little vanilla.

I'm someone who doesn't like the hot chocolate mixes because they can be too chocolatey.  Since I love nutella, I just add a few tablespoons of the chocolate hazelnut spread to milk.  Yum!  http://www.food.com/recipe/nutella-hot-chocolate-74086
