I don’t believe it’ll be a disaster.  And yes you’ll still be very much engaged without the ring. You can still have the party and have all your friends and family celebrate with you. They are going to be happy to share in your happiness.  The ring is just jewelry.

I wouldn’t worry about it. People are engaged without rings all the time. If you’re super concerned of the symbolism, maybe you can use a stand-in.

I am not judging you in ANY WAY.

I am, however, very curious as to why you know you’re getting engaged, and why other people know too. Like, you planned an engagement party that you’ll be actually getting engaged at? No surprise? I think your predicament is why people wait until they’re officially engaged to throw the engagement party.

As far as your ring, can you get a cheap stand in? There’s really not much you can do in this situation.

Mrsbagel, I think it is a cultural thing some south Asian cultures have engagement functions to announce to the family that the couple is getting engaged and to set the date for the wedding. Also, some christian priests may be there, and a ring blessing may be done for the bride to be. I am just speaking on behalf of my culture but this is done. So i’d be having an informal engagement (or a proposal), done after the groom to be asks for the blessings of my parents and our parents meet, then he would propose at some point, then a formal engagement is done with all family members and priests, then the wedding up to a year later.

MissKota1419:  i really hope he gets your ring done soon! If he does not, ask for a price reduction! Is there any way he could get it done on that day and you can just move the party to later in the day?

mbee7:  thank you. I often overlook the fact that bees are from all over the world. I need to stop doing that!

MissKota1419:  I think then your only real option is getting a cheapy stand in ring. I also felt very strongly about a ring. It let’s everyone know you’re taken and in love. Besides, when you tell people for the first time that you’re engaged, they always ask to see the ring!

MissKota1419:  After my husband proposed to me on Easter of this year, we sent the ring off to be resized and I went around my entire engagement not wearing a ring.  Did it mean I was engaged any less?  Nope.  I was still very much engaged.  Just no ring and that was okay.  I got the ring back a week before I got married.
