My ring is an unusual shape and I'm having to get a band made. It's been kind of a hassle but I also know that no one will ever have the same wedding band since it's custom, so that's nice :) I would talk to some jewelers in your area to discuss a potential custom band.
I was convinced to have one made because my jeweler told me that a band that doesn't fit correctly next to the ring will rub the metal and potentially damage it.
I hear you. I have an "oddly" shaped ring myself. Your ring is gorgeous, by the way! Have you considered a ring wrap? There was just a post about it here. http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/my-ring-wrap
It's something that I'm considering, and perhaps it could work for you.
are you set on getting a wedding band? honestly, and this could just be me BUT your ring is so beautiful on its own it doesnt need anything else! Im not getting a wedding band as i feel it takes away from the beauty of my original ring
my ring is fairly similar to yours and i have a regular eternity band. it obviously sits spaced out on my finger but i love the way it looks. also, i really wasnt interested in any of the oddly shaped bands that curve around...i wanted a band that i can wear alone if i chose (even though i cant imagine ever taking off my e-ring). i say do whatever YOU want! there are no rules about rings ;-)
My ring is a bezel set circular stone, so I sorta have the same issue. I love the idea of a ring wrap if it is in your budget!!! It would work perfectly with your ring.
Thanks for the ideas (and compliments!) everyone. I love the wrap idea, I'm definitely going to discuss it with our jeweler. Has anyone ever heard of doing a wrap on just one side? Because of the border around my center stone, I worry that the "top" wrap will go too far up onto my knuckle and look funny/be uncomfortable. However I definitely think that there will be a time when I will want to wear my band without the engagement ring, and I don't think that works with a wrap? I am so jewelry-challenged. Plus, I am really weird about always taking my ring off when I use lotion and stuff like that, so I'm taking it off and putting it on pretty frequently. Does anyone have any opinions on welding the band to the engagement ring? Yay or nay?
I think you can get a custom ring that will just wrap around the bottom half of your e-ring. That is quite common actually!
I have an odd shap as well, and I personally didnt want a band that had a funny bend in it, i wanted something i could wear alone. I NEVER take my e-ring off, but thats not the point :) I just didnt see the point of my wedding band blending right in with my e-ring - i wnated there to be a difference visually.
one of my good gf's has a ring almost exactly like yours and she did the same thing i did and chose a pretty band that was just round, no funny bend. we like that it doesnt sit right up against our e-rings.
here is what i did:
Love it ClairDarling-see, that is what I wanted originally! I tried on my future sister-in-law's eternity band, very similar to that one, and I liked how it looked. Everyone else seemed to think that I was nuts. I'm glad I decided to post on here, because I don't know a thing about fine jewelry/wedding rings/etc. so when people would say this or that doesn't work, I was believing it. I'm glad to see that, for the most part, anything goes, it's what you like that matters! If anyone else has photos or ideas to share, please do! Thank you!
I have same problem. I LOVE my ring yet it can't be 'flushed' to a band. Due to my job, I may not even able to wear my e-ring. So, I'm thinking about getting a simple band from Cartier's Love collection.
find a band that you love and rock it. My band actually has a ton of engraving along the sides - very art deco. i just wanted an eternity band, but i wanted something more than just the diamonds. we had my band custom made so that it was unique
I second what ClairDarling said, you don't have to have your wedding band sit flush with your e-ring. I don't have photos of my e-ring and band yet but I have a square bezel setting and just a normal gold 4mm band. There's a slight gap but it doesn't bother me. I'd just go and try on a few styles and see what you like best!
I have your exact ring... pm me and remind me to take a photo of my band... not on here too often
I am in the jewelry business and I think you will be happiest in the long run if you do a very delicate simple eternity band. Any time I've ever done a fitted/cut out/welded/curved band (only if the customer insists) they have eventually regretted it.

I have a beautiful engagement ring that is exactly what I wanted. However, I'm not sure what type of band will be best. I've heard multiple opinions-to have one made that is "flat" in one spot so the flat part fits under the engagement ring stone/border; have one made that is shaped so it fits around the engagement ring stone/border; a woman also told me that a band on my finger with the engagement ring was a ridiculous idea, that I had to have one for my right hand ring finger...has anyone dealt with this that could offer me advice/photos of good ideas?
