My period is 8 days late! We decided to try in March, so I went off BC last month. Is it normal for my first period to be late? Please tell me yes!
The reason I am so worried instead of excited is because this was not "planned." Th night it would have happened was litterally 5 days after the start of my period, so I thought we were safe. It was only like 6-7 days after my last active pill.
I am worried because I have had some wine since then. I have gotten tipsy 2-3 times in the past month. This is ussually only 2-3 glasses, so nothing major...but still enough to harm a baby, right?
I have no pregnancy symptoms whatsoever. My period will come....right???
I don't think you should be worried at all....this is a very exciting time!! I had a friend that got pregnant the month after she went off the pill, too. I think you should be thrilled!! :) I wouldnt put too much thought into the few glasses of wine, either. Many women have a couple drinks before knowing they are pregnant. Some women even have the occasional glass of wine while pregnant, not that I would recommend that!
Anyways, what I'm trying to say is be happy and go take a pregnancy test!! :)
Ahh..I can't relax about it! I just wanted to do it "right" and "safe." You know what I mean? Aso, this would mean I am six months pregnant as a MOH in my sister's wedding...crappy!! But how could I possibly have no symptoms? The problem with that is that I also have no period symptoms either (swollen boobs, etc.). Oh man...I wanted to wait a few months!
Well if you decided to try in March, you're only a few weeks early... And no freaking out about being preggers (possibly) for your sister's wedding - pregnant women are beautiful! Either way, it'll be alright. Maybe your period is just late!
Relax. Go take a pregnancy test. But really, periods are late all the time. Don't stress about it and don't stress about having had wine. I had a friend who didn't know she was pregnant for the first trimester - she went out and had drinks with us on a regular basis. It didn't harm her or the baby at all.
I would just take a pregnancy test. There's a good chance you're not even pregnant! Going off the pill would definitely mix up your cycle, so it might just be that :)
You could be pregnant, but I know that both times I've gone off my birth control my period has been at least a week late the first month. Just take a test, that should solve things.
Lol dont be worried! When you go off birth control you period goes all out of wack. You might start or you might be prego. You never know unless you take that test. Your first symptoms dont usually come till about 2 weeks after conception. Even then they can be so subtle you wont even know. With my first baby I didnt get the "morning" sickness till I was about 8 weeks prego. As for having sex 5 days after your period, its not aways safe for everyone. You could be menstrating at anytime after there. Every woman is different. As for the drinking. Dont worry about that either! It usually after the first trimester that they say to cut any alchohol out completely. It was around new years of 08 when i found out I was prego and on new years night I got flat out drunk and didnt know I was prego. The baby was fine.
Dont worry!!!!!! Your body knows what to do! Your just along for the ride! ENJOY!!!! =)
It could just be from going off of your bc. Don't panic yet. You've just thrown your horomones for a loop by stopping the pill and your body is likely responding to the change. Just make sure you're taking the proper precautions (no more drinking, multi-vitamin, avoiding danger foods) until you know for sure. Take a pregnancy just to be sure.
I didn't find out I was pregnant unti I was a month. In that time I had gone out and had a few drinks on several different occasions. I was so freaked out and scared. I would have never done that had I known. Especially in the beginning.. but she turned out amazing. And when you stop and think about it, most people don't know they're pregnant at first and thus drink in the begining. It's usually the women who really drink a lot that have issues with fetal alcohol syndrome. One story that did make me feel better was.. one of my friends who is a bartender and possibly an alcoholic told me that she went to mexico with her hubby when she was unknowingly pregnant with her first. She drank spring break style. When she found out she was preggo she stopped drinking. Her daughter is like 12 now and the is honor roll.. science nerd.. adorable and smart as a whip! Everything will be fine!!!
One more thing, I got my period the first month I was pregnant with my (now 9 year old) daughter. It was very light, but I got my period, nonetheless. Which brings me back to my point....just take the test, and if it's positive, then celebrate!! This is a happy time....especially if you went off bc to try to get pregnant!! :)
I'm a big fan of peeing on a stick. I did it every time we planned to go out and have a drink, so that I'd have peace of mind. You can get really really inexpensive tests at dollar tree or at target.
I just went off my BC for the first time in 10 years (cause I started getting sudden, blinding headaches and my doctor worried it was a side effect.). My period was off by about a week the first and second month, but the third month it got back on track, so to speak. However, if you have any worries about pregnancy at all- pee on a stick! :) Its a cheap and easy way to settle your worries or bring new joy into your life! :D
Also, I read the other day that sperm can stay alive and swimming in your body for up to 3 days and cause pregnancy anytime within that period. So if you ovulated anytime in that 3 day window you Could be pregnant. Also, if you are not pregnant, but since you are planning to try soon, the article also said that if you have sex every 3 days, regardless of where you are in your ovulation cycle you are much more likely to get pregnant then only having sex when you are ovulating, because the sperm stick around and as long as there are sperm you can get pregnant.
I don't think you're in any danger with that little amount of drinking. I mean, isn't that how a lot of people get preggo in the first place ? ;)
I second what everyone has already said. Do a home pregnancy test. That should answer the question for you. Also, I wouldn't worry about the alcohol. We've had several friends lately with unplanned pregnancies (all were already married luckily!). Since the pregnancies were unplanned, they were definitely still drinking during the first month or so -- until they realized they were pregnant. And you know what? The babies all came out just fine!!
You ought to be fine. If you were taking a hormonal birth control (like the pill) then it's normal for your body to be a little out of whack. It's trying to adjust to the hormone change. Now, if you are still anxious, just a test. You can get a cheap one most anywhere. As for the drinking, you will be fine. A few glasses wouldn't hurt, especially in the very beginning.
This is exciting Heathaah! I wouldn't be too worried, March is only a few short weeks away. I definitely understand that you wanted to do it right and be safe. This happened to me. In the first few weeks when I was preggie and didn't know, I had a beer or two and maybe a glass a wine or two on a few nights. All is well so far. Just make sure you take care of yourself from now on, just in case.
To ease your mind, take a pregnancy test. My best suggestion is the digital one, so much easier to read then the two lined test. I took both kinds and the two lined test, one was faded and the other was a strong line. Talk about confusing people.
Anyway, I stopped my pill 2 weeks before my wedding, got my period a week before the wedding. Wedding came and went and I got my period the week after the wedding. The only "symptoms" I got in the beginning was cramping. I thought it was my period but when I checked the calendar, I was already a week late. So taking the test will give you an answer. If it does come out negative wait 2 weeks or so before trying again, even if you get your period.
Good luck and keep us posted!! :)
I wouldn't worry too much- take a pregnancy test to ease your mind!
Keeping my fingers crossed for you! :)
I agree with @missroot...take a test and you'll feel so much better :)
I got pregnant ON my period, so I don't really trust when "they" say you will ovulate. I think it's different for everyone. I was on BC for 12 years, and when I went off it, my cycle became VERY irregular. Grab a HPT, see what it says. If you're not pregnant, then you may want to be more careful and plan better if you're scared to be pregnant for your sister's wedding. If you are pregnant, celebrate! A few glasses of wine don't do anything in the first six weeks anyway, your little fetus is still a bunch of cells multiplying. It the 7th-14th weeks that are the most crucial. So stopping now is fine. And being 6 months preggers for your sister's wedding? Not a big deal! You won't take any attention away from her, she's in a big poufy white dress. Grab a BM dress with an empire waist and you'll be fine.
When I stopped my birth control, I went almost 50 days before I got a real period that wasn't just the withdrawal bleed. I then went almost another 3 months before I got a 2nd period. So yes, going off the pill does mess with your cycle. It affects everyone differently though. I kept taking pee tests just incase for the peace of mind. I didn't have any symptoms of pregnancy, and I assume I won't be the lucky few who escape without symptoms or have only mild discomfort when the time comes. You should definitely take a test though. You're late enough that it would register if you took one.
I do have a friend who recently got pregnant right after stopping the pill. She was a little late so she went to the dr and got a blood test (even though her pee test was negative), and turns out she was. Her only symptoms were fatigue really. They were trying for a baby though.
Either way, I hope the results are what you hoped for! I'm sure the alcohol isn't going to harm baby if that ends up the case, but you might want to stop drinking now if you plan on TTC soon anyway, just incase :) Good luck!
I second @Mrs.DG pee on a stick and take the worries out. I swear I thought I was preggers whilst still on the pill... peed on a stick no dice. It really is the instant-free-and-clear.
I skipped my period the first month after coming off BC. I would take an at home test to confirm anything. Relax! This is exciting if you were trying to start in the next few weeks!
I will definately update as soon as I know anything. I just don't "feel" pregnant...but we will see! As if I even know what that feels like :)
I wouldn't be too worried about it! Your body is going to be a little messed up trying to regulate itself at first. And as for the wine, don't worry! Before I found out I was pregnant, I drank like a fish! (we weren't trying so I had no idea!) No harm was done to my baby either, so its ok! but take a test to find out and let us know!!!!!
It happened for us the first month i was off bc, too, and in those first 2-3 weeks i drank wine, ate sushi, went in a hot tub AND had oysters. Let me tell you how worried I was but the doctor said not to worry. Regardless, this is fantastic news if you are and a great reminder to be careful if you are not. Good luck and keep us posted!
I'm pretty sure the way it works is that in the first couple weeks of a pregnancy, the placenta hasn't yet fully formed, and so no alcohol you drink can get to the baby. There's usually only two weeks between conception and a missed period anyway, so anything you do in that time period really shouldn't hurt your baby. I got a little tipsy in that two week time period with my baby, and she's completely normal.
Well I know that I personally went out and got totally tanked one night after getting a negative result on a pregnancy test... turns out I was pregnant. Our little guy is doing just fine. Don't worry about it. The important part is to abstain once you know that you are pregnant.
you never know because some women get really irregular off bc.
Either way, keep us posted!
FYI I saw a show on twins and it said that you have a higher chance of having twins if you conceive in the first month you're off the pill! Uht oh.... :)
Take a test! i want to know... that would be exciting :)
When I went off the pill, my first month or two was all out of whack. So I don't think it's something to get too worried about.
TWINS??? AHHHHH!!! Ok, I will let everyone know when we take the test. We will probably go pick one up tonight. I am secretly hoping it is negative, just so we can start being healthy from the start. But I would much rather it be positive now then to have trouble concieving later. Thank you everyone for calming my nerves regardless of the outcome!
I took the test...Negative!!! Okay, now we can just wait for my period and time things right. I am very happy to be a little more "in control" of things. I am definately more comfortable with this result for now. Next month may be a different story! :)
Thanks everyone for being there for me! Next time we can all hope for the opposite result!
I know that most test packs come with two. You may want to wait about a week and if you don't start then check it with your first pee in the morning. That contains the most of the hormone that indicates preggers. I seriously wouldn't stress about a little bit of wine. One of FI's friends got preggo while visiting us. She drank every weekend she was there and several times during the week then found out she was after she got back home. The baby turned out fine and is beautiful.
Ditto the re-taking if you don't get your period soon. With my second, I took a test at the begining of December and it was negative, had a period for 1.5 day. Went out New Years Eve had a great time. January rolled around no period. I was pregnant the whole time. My daughter is absolutely perfect and intelligent, everything turned out fine.
I also recommend the second test. I got a false negative with a home pregnancy test.
I should give it another week? I did get a 2 pack of tests. Are false negatives that common?
If you've been stressed lately, that can also effect your period. Just a little FYI.
