Some are carrying in lieu of bouquets! =)
or some may be stuffing the clutches with last minute goodies for their girls as gifts to be used at the wedding or later!
@CupCakeMeg:I like it as a gift, nd filling it with cute things. Maybe I will go out after Xmas and see what I can find...
I'm getting them so they can throw in their lip gloss, phones, etc. if they want. My friends won't be carrying them down the aisle but since the ceremony and reception are in the same location (a few blocks from their hotel), it will be easy for them to stow them away for later use.
@Amy43026: When I was a bridesmaid a few years ago, part of our bridal party gift was this little purse thing that matched the color of our dresses. It wasn't a clutch, because it had a strap, but it was about the size of a clutch. All of us girls carried it on our wrists and still held our bouquets. We put like our cell phones, lip gloss, etc. in them. I thought it was a little silly at first (and the bag was pretty ugly, if I'm being honest), but it came in handy on the day of.
@CarolinaCola: so you never used it again? And if you wouldn't have received it would you have just used your own clutch or wristlet?
I have been to a couple of weddings where the bridesmaids carried clutches instead of flowers. They loved it. Instead of the bride spending fairly big money on a bouquet that was thrown out after a few days, they had a lovely clutch to keep.
You can do both by attaching a flower to a clutch
mine were intended as gifts.
my bridesmaids both told me they didn't have any decent evening purses so I thought it would be nice for them to have the clutches to store their things in during the reception.
I tucked gift receipts in the pockets. if they wanted to go out and buy their own purses for the reception, I wouldn't have minded.
As for walking down the aisle with them, how do they hold them?
If they are escorted by one of the groomsmen, they slip one arm through his and hold the clutch in the other hand.

@Amy43026: Nope, I've never used it again. Little clutches aren't my thing, I always carry a big purse wherever I go. And if they weren't gifted to us, we probably would have left our phones with a friend who wasn't in the wedding party and just carried our bouquets. Or just stuck 'em in our bras. Haha.
Personally i dont like to see them in leiu of a bouquet, but i like the idea them as an extra little something for them to carry around there phones, lipstick etc.
I am making my bridesmaids dresses so i have the fabric, and may make them a little matching purse for these essentials, but i am undecided wether to do that or make side pockets in the dress.
whichever i do, i wont consider it as the 'gift' because i think anything for the bridesmaids to use at a wedding, should not be used as a gift.
When I give my bridesmaids a gift it will be something personal and not wedding orientated.

For those of you that are getting your bridesmaid matching clutches: are they carrying theseinstead of bouquets? If they are still carrying bouquets then aren't these clutches just going to still at the table all night? Is this something you are paying for or are you asking your bridesmaids to purchase them? Or is tgift part of their gift? Which I like if so....
