… with completely ridiculous wardrobe adjustments. Just for laughs. I don’t know why I do it … okay, I know exactly why I do it! Because it’s fun!
She’s such a trooper and just takes everything in stride. She’s also rather gullible, and at first she thought I was serious about these things. I told her I wanted the BMs to wear Birkenstocks with their dresses to “match the outdoorsy vibe.” I assure you, while Birkenstocks have their place, my wedding is not one of them. I told her I was thinking of adding sequin nipples onto the dress, complete with areolas. I told her “this dress would be sexier if it was midriff-revealing, don’t you think? I’m pretty good with a sewing machine — let’s do it!”
Last night I told her I was thinking of having her hair teased 80’s style and giving her a big flower with a chin-strap to wear on her head.
And every time I say something like this, she just smiles and says “I’m pretty sure you’re joking, but even if you weren’t, I’d do it because it’s your wedding and I want everything to be perfect for you.” What a darling 🙂 🙂 I think I need to get her more presents!
Anyone else think their BMs are just the bees knees??

Ha! I haven’t been doing it purposefully, but I went to look at BM dresses by myself one day, and became the victim of an overzealous salewoman who had me try on ridiculous single strap chiffon concoctions (well, they just weren’t me). I sent a picture to the girls, assuming they would know I was suffering in it…but they were so positive! When I clarified, that these dresses were NOT in the running, their relief was EXTREME. I can’t believe they would have been willing to go along with something so hideous! Then I look on this board and see BM demands about dressess and whatnot, it’s hard to believe it’s real. I can’t believe how lucky I am to have the BMs I do.
btw, it actually gets better. We decided on JCrew dresses fairly early. I gave them leeway to pick dresses in the same fabric, in the same color family. Four different girls, four different body types, four different colorings – it just made sense to me to do it that way. I didn’t care that the dresses wouldn’t be the same style or color. They all get back to me…with the same dress in the same color. I’d bet anything there was some collusion going on with that choice – they were so concerned I’d someday regret that my pictures wouldn’t look uniform! Love them so much.
PinkFlamingo, what are you getting them? I feel the same way…there’s just not enough that I can possibly do to show them how grateful I am!

@bythebook: I’m getting them a pile of stuff, but a lot of it is wedding-related which is why I wonder if I should do more, at least for the MOH! I’m getting them flask-garters in the wedding colors, which I hope they’ll appreciate longer-term, and then I’m also got them sapphire earring and necklace sets to wear to the wedding. I made hair combs for them that I hope aren’t hideous, and I’m paying to have their hair done. The other two BMs are family and live across the country, so all they did was buy their dresses (which I still totally appreciate!!!) whereas the MOH is taking the lead on planning a bachelorette party AND stressing about her toast at the reception. She even pulled like 10 books on giving speeches at weddings out of the library so she wouldn’t mess it up.
I NEED TO GET HER MORE PRESENTS!!! I’ll have to think on it though, since I really don’t know what she wants. Probably a gift card to a nice restaurant would be appreciated … even though if I know her, she’ll just invite me and Fi along with her and her boyfriend and then pay for all of us with the gift card.
How did we get so lucky?!?! 🙂 Seriously, I read all the BM horror stories and I just can’t help thinking I struck gold!

I was cringing a bit when I told my unofficial MOH that I am considering orange dresses (it’s my faovirte color and yellow and orange are the wedding colors) and cowboy boots (it’s a backyard wedding and I just love the way they look). She told me that she absolutely refused to walk down the aisle naked but as long as I let her wear clothes, she’ll wear whatever I want. I knew there was a reason she’s my best friend!

@JenGirl: Love it! Yeah, at first I had this feeling like I needed to do everything in my power not to step on their toes, because I didn’t want to be that bridezilla with the pissed-off bridesmaids in butt-bows. But now that I realize how sweet and tolerant they are, I’m having a little more fun thinking of how I really really want things to look instead of ONLY thinking about keeping them from getting pissed off. Like the hair combs I made them — I wanted to tie the wedding colors and ceremony decor together somehow, and I’m using their noggins to do it. While I expect a certain eye-roll from my older sister, I’m sure they’ll all wear them and smile happily. And I bet the MOH won’t even take it off for the reception, because if I thought it was pretty enough for her to wear for the ceremony then dammit she’s going to wear it all night.
I LOVE THESE GIRLS!!!
Here’s the hair comb, by the way. Would you roll your eyes if I asked you to wear this? It’s okay to say yes 😉

Awwww…she sounds so sweet! I also enjoyed torturing my bm’s!

aww, yay for great bridesmaids (I couldn’t say “great BMs”)! I have some great girls too. When we were looking for dresses, all of them said they didn’t care what the dress looked like as long as I’m happy. And when I was looking to book the hair and make up artists, there was a problem with the timing, each one of my girls offered to get their hair and make up done somewhere else because they want to make sure there is enough time for me to get my stuff done without being rushed. Luckily we were able to adjust timing and everybody is getting hair and make up done together!
Right now they are working on the bridal shower and one of my BMs and her mom (who is like my 2nd mom) are making favors and decorations, they are going all out. I love my girls!

As a sidenote, I just realized I have an extra fake big ol’ white peony flower that I was going to use in my toss bouquet but decided against.
I think I should put it on a chin strap and make the MOH wear it for at least one picture 🙂
Though knowing my guests and their tendency to drink and then put weird things on their heads, odds are good the chin-strap peony will be the most photographed item at that wedding … and that includes myself!

@PinkFlemingo: With as much joking as you’ve done, I think you definitely need to pull a prank on them. Like the absolute worst accessories you can think of for BM gifts at the rehearsal. Let them cringe and pretend they’re nice then let them in on the prank.

lol! “adding sequin nipples onto the dress, complete with areolas”
She sounds just like my niece…so gullible!

My fun starts that I wanted them to wear green dresses, and my MOH didn’t want to wear one and was being PA about it. We managed to find a gorgeous dress that everyone loved including her!
Next I started making hair flowers out of plum organza with beads in the center, to which MOH was also not happy about. The other girls seem to think they are cute, I’ll be wearing similar ones in ivory.
Then there was the great shoe debacle, because I thought it would be cute for them to wear purple shoes. This really wound up not being feasible so we have since switched to pewter and everyone is much happier.
My MOH is my sister who is 14 mos younger than me, if that helps explain why she is being such a brat. She’s been very supportive so long as its not about what she’s wearing.
@PinkFlemingo: the rosette on the pink flower I thinkis too much, if it was a pearly like in the white flower I think it would be very cute but the rosette seems to make it less of a legitmate hairpiece and a little bit too costumey. But if I was your bridesmaid I’d wear it anyway 🙂

Haha, that’s awesome. When I sent my bridesmaids the info for the dresses, I attached a link that sent them to uglydress.com (a treasure trove of hilarity, by the way). Fortunately, they all have a good sense of humor. 🙂

Yes! Haha I laughed really hard at this post.
@PinkFlemingo: That is awesome. Your MOH sounds awesome.
I’ve threatened for years to my best friend and my sister that I was going to find the most hideous, unflattering, poofy bridesmaid dress in existence. My MOH told me just to tell her when and where and what to wear, even if it was a mumu and we were getting married in the middle of a corn field.

@jpalm13: Haha I suddenly find myself wishing Spanx were cheaper … I could totally make “PinkFlemingo & Mr.PinkFlemingo Wedding 6-2-2012” customized spanx for them to wear. “Now you can remember our wedding every time you decide to hold in your chub!”
I’ll definitely have to work on a prank gift … haha if I can possibly keep a straight face for even two seconds when I give it to them! If only I collected corks … I’m imagining a cork necklace since we’re getting married at a winery …

@PinkFlemingo: HAHAHA omg I think I’d be excited to get spanx! Sometimes chiffon isnt so forgiving and I see myself bloating up come the end of dinner. Customized would make it that much better!
