Lol, this is why my husband gladly stepped out of wedding planning! If it had been planned by him, it would have been in a bar, decorated with Auburn Tigers stuff, and we would have been doing keg stands and playing darts. :)
I would continue to encourage him- especially since it sounds like he wants to be just as much a part of the planning as you do. Perhaps you can go to a craft store and pick up some tulle or other streamer material suitable for a wedding and ask if he likes those. He may change his mind, or who knows- you both might get an even better idea just by brainstorming with the materials in hand.
i discovered that sometimes what he says and what you hear (or vice versa) aren't always the same thing.
for example, my financee told his mom the wedding would be formal, which she then repeated to me, causing me to freak out. (it's not, not even close) when i asked him what formal meant to him, he said 'guys in suits and girls in dresses' huge sigh of relief, but what else might he have been confused about, and who else thinks our wedding will be formal? :)
I agree futuregoozdich!
I've had so many experiences where men don't seem to know the right word for something! When I worked at this one school the 65 year old male head teacher told us that the girls had to wear formal dresses to the big birthday celebration. So a bunch of us went out and bought cocktail dresses - only to be reprimanded later by the female head of the school for not wearing business formal skirts....It seems the head teacher thought a 'skirt' and a 'dress' were the same thing. Caused a bit of chaos.
Hmm, maybe I should ask him to explain to me what a streamer is, maybe he is thinking of a string of lights or something!
Haha, he might! Or he might mean paper lanterns and a photobooth in the corner! ;) FH and I have the other side of the coin, he just won't suggest anything! Getting him to give me his opinion is a bit like banging my head against a brick wall sometimes.
@littlemissmoo I really thought my FH would be like that, but I told him he could have a star wars grooms cake, since then he has taken a lot more interest!
Hehe. Ah well, who knows with men! It's very unlike my FH to be determined to get what he wants so it's quite a welcome change at the moment! And I think he's just as excited as me - the other day I came home to find him cutting out all the inserts to put into the invitations and badgering FSIL for the design for the invites! Bless him.
i'm serious. make him spell out to you what he thinks he's saying. or better yet, make him find a picture of what he's thinking of!
of course, it's always possible that he DID mean streamers. in that case, good luck, and godspeed.

My FH and I were walking around our venue to make a list of decorations we need to purchase, and get an idea of the layout. I asked my FH what he thought would look good and he said 'We should get some streamer and hang it around." UMMM? Streamer. I was trying so hard not to laugh because he was dead serious, and then he got frustrated that I was laughing at his idea. He has been so involved in the wedding planning, I guess I just forgot that he is still a guy lol!
