@minted:  Maybe just buy it and have them ship it out here? Your already getting close to 6 months out and if your going to order a dress you need to do it soon if you want it new and have time for alterations.

A roundtrip to Australia could cost $1600 or so—the cost of a very nice dress! So it could be cheaper/easier for you to order the Pallas Couture dress blindly, and then buy a $1600 dress as a back up and sell whichever dress you don’t wear!

My dress was made by them so if you have any questions please feel free to PM me and I will give you my honest experience with them.

Also just so you know, they can arrange Skype appointments. I’m not sure what they can do for you, but I assume if you gave them your measurements, they could make it and ship it to you? Then you could always take it for finishing alterations locally when you get it.

Lol, and MANY of the Australian Brides would tell you they lust after the Dresses in the US Market.

And that getting one shipped to them is crazy expensive as well…

So is life.

Maybe, if you go off to Australia to buy a dress for yourself, you could pack along one from NA for an Australian Bride.

Having purchased my dress blindly from the other side of the world I definitely don’t think it’s the stupidest idea to just order it and hope for the best (provided that you have tried on dresses of a similar style, and know what type of dress looks good on you).

In saying that, I’m a big fan of travel, and if you can afford flights to and accommodation in Australia and are able to take time off work, then wanting to try on dresses there seems like a good excuse to see a bit more of the world!  Google both Sydney and Perth, decide where you’d most like to visit, and make a holiday out of it 🙂

I think with the flights plus dress prices out here, you would be looking at a fortune! assuming that you could get flights for $1600, hotel rooms in the major cities over here range between $100-$200 for a basic room, plus everything else is way more expensive (for comparison, a large meal at McDonals is between $7-9ish here).  If you stayed for a week to get value for money from your airfares, you might be looking at another $700-$1000 or more tacked on to the price!

I don’t know what Pallas prices are like, but the “cheaper” designer dresses I looked at started at around $3000ish.

If you have tried on a similar dress and know your measurements, @Cyri ‘s suggestion of a skype appointment sounds like a fabulous idea!

I don’t think it’s crazy, particularly if you want to visit Australia anyway – and why would you, it’s amazing place to holiday. 😉 It’s not at all uncommon for Aussie brides to do a US trip in order to buy their wedding dress without the Australian mark-up. The grass is always greener, I guess!
