I’ll try to make this short, but it’s kind of a long story.
I was approached by an agency about a confidential job search for a position. They said the current person isn’t working out so they will be hiring someone to replace her. I had three interviews and two of them got pretty technical to make sure that I would be able to handle the position without someone there to train me.
They decided that since there are some things I would need to learn from the other person that they would hire me, tell her that I’m from a temp agency and I’m only working here for a month, get me to learn what I can from her, let her go and then hire me as a permanent employee. I didn’t love this idea but I could see where they were coming from so I said ok.
The agency however said that would be pretty unethical and advised that they stick to their original plan. The company said that they would let her go Aug 1 and have me start Aug 6. Well, Aug 6 came around and I started and the original lady was still here. They told her that the department is expanding and we are here to work together. I talked to my new boss about this and she said that they weren’t sure at the last minute if they should have two people in that role or not since the company is growing so to just “go with the flow for now”.
So for almost two weeks I had to work with this lady who was SUPER nice! She was so thankful to have someone help out and was bringing me chocolate and Starbucks (even though she’s not a sbux person). She was just an incredibly nice, sweet lady who loves her job.
They let her go yesterday 🙁 I knew she was having a horrible morning because she was in a pain from a back injury she received 20 years ago from her ex-husband, but she was still smiling and again told me how happy she is to have me here, how great this is that we get to work together, and how she can’t wait to see my wedding pictures because I’ll be a beautiful bride.
I feel horrible bees! When my boss told us that she had let her go I just wanted to cry, and I did when I got home. This lady totally got blindsided and I was a part of it. To make me feel even worse, she emailed me and said she knows I had nothing to do with it and wishes me luck with my new roll. I really hope that it doesn’t take her long to find a great job that she loves!
