OK, I’m a small 18, large 16. Overweight yes. Working on it.
The problem is, I see women VERY MUCH more overweight than I am and they look soooo put together. I feel sloppy, all the time. I have a hard time getting clothes to fit, so I usually go a size up which is obviously not flattering But even say, with jeans, that I can wear snug, they still gap in unflattering places. My tops mostly look sloppy.
How do I fix this?! I’m working on losing weight but like I said, I see very overweight women who are snappy dresses and look awesome. How do I look like them?! Any advice besides “get clothes tailored to fit perfectly”?

Any advice besides “get clothes tailored to fit perfectly”?
This is an important part of the answer! Please don’t ignore it. If you can’t afford a tailor, learn to sew if you don’t already have the skills.
Buy your clothes to fit the largest area (? hips) then take in the others(? waist).
Also look online for some plus sized women whose style you like and examine what they are doing with their wardrobe to look more put together.

Are you normally choosing your own clothes? Perhaps you could have a personal shopper or sales associate help you choose more flattering shapes. Sometimes it is nice to have fresh eyes while choosing clothing.

I do choose my own clothes….I’ll ty to have some others help next time.
I also think I need better fitting bras..sigh. Could that be part of the problem? Looking at pictures of me, sometimes they look like they’re, um, sagging.

@starrynight: That could make a BIG difference. I would go to a specialty bra store or a place like Nordstroms to get a proper fitting. It will make a noticable difference in how your tops fit.

@starrynight: They say that up t0 80% of women are wearing the wrong size bra. Go to a proper lingerie shop that has trained fitters. Once you know what a properly fitted bra feels like, it is easier to find proper fitting bras on your own.
Here is a list of plus size blogs- maybe you will identify with one of these bloggers? You may not, because at a large 16, I don’t even consider you plus sized.

Got fitted today, my bras are old, but the right size. I don’t notice too much of a difference with the new one. Sigh.

You probably just need to find better styles/shapes/cuts for your figure. Maybe post some pictures so we can help you by pointing out what the problem is and finding styles that would look better?
I also think that sometimes going with really basic clothes and adding a nice hair cut, color, makeup and accessories changes everything. Have you tried that?
What about the proper undergarments? You probably don’t want to wear spanx every day, but I do wear control top hose a lot.
