I ended up selling the first dress I purchased and bought a new one two months before the wedding!! I completely agree with your advice!

@nikbee:  Just curious.. what’s the dress you picked and what’s the dress you think you want? Sorry you have dress regret, but at least you’re making a decision about it and moving forward! Good luck!

What did you dislike about it (for my own future dress shopping)?

@nikbee:  that’s a really pretty dress! i’m with you though – i need something more for my dress. i’m also have a destination wedding, but will likely end up with a poofy ruffly ballgown type dress (like the allure 8862 or maggie sottero jerrica). just because it’s casual and on a beach doesn’t mean the BRIDE has to dress down. Good luck finding your dream dress!!

@nikbee:  I totally agree about trying all different shapes and styles. Consultants can be hit or miss. I had one that I told I didn’t want a strapless dress, and instead of bringing me dresses with straps she kept trying to convince me that I could totally pull strapless off ‘I don’t feel comfortable showing that much skin’ just would not get through to her. One of my other consultants was a huge hit for me. She put me, miss tom-boy anti-poof, in a ballgown and bam there was my dress (it’s the least poofy ballgown I’ve seen). While buying my dress we talked to the shop owner and she said a good consultant should be able to find your dress in 4 or 5 dresses. One way to tell if you have a good consultant is how well they listen to you and how many questions they ask you. 10 minutes after meeting my consultant she knew that my mom and I love illusion backs, the dress must have lace, I was getting married outdoors on grass in the summer, and I wasn’t into bling at all. She was the one who pulled my dress and it was dress 5 or 6.

@nikbee:  First of – you look beautiful in this dress and you have a great figure!!

Completely understand how you feel about having second thoughts. I too got caught up in the moment and purchased a dress but woke up the next morning and felt instant regret. I was fortunate to be able to cancel the order but I ended up with a dress that was completely different to what I thought I wanted. It took time to explore and understand the right silhouette and yes these things cannot be rushed. In the end I found “the dress” which was nothing what I originally expected. Funny how you draw your thoughts and options on pictures but only try them on and reconsider, explore and find something completely different, etc.

I think its fantastic that you have made this decision early. Trust your gut!

@nikbee: I completely understand how you feel. I was pressured into the first dress I bought. Not really “pressured” but I was shopping with someone (FSIL) who is much more outspoken than me and it’s very easy to get caught up in others opinions and not speak up for yourself. While the dress I got I don’t hate (it really is beautiful, fun/funky).I knew from the moment I handed over my money it wasn’t “my” dress.

And to all brides, don’t think you’re suppose to have a certain type of dress b/c of your wedding style. I’m actually eloping and I want the dress of my dreams no matter what…not a short white dress (typical for eloping).

I have since found MY dress and I hope you have too!

@nikbee:  Oh that’s an amazing dress! I thought I would love the MS Divina from pictures, but once on me it didn’t live up to what I hoped. I had that “holy fucking shit” moment with the red gemma. Once you have finally found your dress it’s a combination of relief, happyiness and excitement.

Please keep us posted on the JBS thread with the VH dress!

Do you have a photo of you in that dress? I’m sure it looks unbelievable on you!
