For various reasons, I decided not to register for a kitchenaid stand mixer for our wedding.  Now, almost 2 years into marriage, I bought one last night.  The big question is... what do I do with it?!

Please share your favorite stand mixer tips and recipes! Laughing

Oh how I would love a mixer. I mix everything by hand right now and it's such a pain! I just made pineapple upside down cake for Mr. T's birthday in my cast iron skillet. It was so good!

OMG, I got one of these for Christmas from my FI and it is the best!!! I do everything in it. My favorite to make in it is angel food cake. Instead of standing there with your hand mixer waiting for your eggs to peak, you can just turn it on and walk away. Mine came with 3 attachments but I am going to start buying all the other ones soon.

@PumpkinSpiceChai: Everything!! The whisk attachment is great for meringues and macaroons. Just turn it up on high and walk away, come back, and then you've got perfectly whipped egg whites! I mix all of my dips in mine like my carmelized onion one. It's great for uniformity in mixing. Get a beater blade that scraps the sides of the bowl. I got one for my mom and she loves it. I don't know how I survived without my mixer and big food processor!

besides desserts my absolute favorite thing to make with the mixer is pizza dough - my husband and I are always creating new pizza recipes. BBQ Chicken, Plain Cheese, Pepperoni and bacon - but it all starts with the mixer and the dough. yummm

1 package of active dry yeast

    1 cup of warm water

    1 tbs of sugar

    3 tbs of softened butter

    1 1/2 teaspoons of salt

    2 1/2 cups of flour

Let yeast and sugar sit in warm water for 10 minutes
    pour in kitchen aid bowl

Add butter salt and flour and mix using the dough mixer - (the spiral one)

once its all mixed and doughy take out and knead for a few minutes - place it under a kitchen towel and let rise

use a rolling pin to get the deisred size and thinkness - add your favorite toppings

(i always add a little italian seasoning to the dough - just a personal preference)

Bake at 350 until dough is cooked and enjoy :)

i should also add : i usually put the pizza sauce on - cook for about 10 minutes or so before adding a little more sauce and desired toppings - that way the dough gets fully cooked without completely burning the toppings.

Besides baking and mixing, I also use mine for shredding meat. It works so well!

If we want shredded chicken tacos or pulled pork, I just throw the cooked meat in there and it shreds it right up. I don't have to spend tons of time with two forks trying to do it myself.

@lara bee: I'm totally trying this! What attachment do you use?

I love my mixer! The food I make the most is probably pancakes, it takes like two seconds and it's hardly ever clumpy!!!

@totheislnds: Ahh love homemade pizza! Asparagus has been my favorite topping so far.

I want a mixer for making my favorite pumpkin bread. It is so good everyone goes crazy over it! I use butterscotch pudding mix instead of the coconut pudding mix that they call for!

I make everything in my mixer!

When I make scrambled eggs I use it to wisk the eggs because the get extra fluffy that way.

    Deserts, tortillas everything!

I love mine doubly because it is purple and matches my grape themed kitchen.

You're going to have so much fun!

I do all kinds of things with it...a few favorites:

Sugar Cookies with Royal Icing (check out www.bakeat350.blogspot.com)

Pizza dough, hamburger buns, and other breads (check out www.annies-eats.com)

@lampshade127:  Me too on the bread!  I never wanted to learn to make bread because hand-kneading is so tedious - the bread hook on the mixer makes it so much easier.

The other thing I love using it for is ice cream.  My FH got me the ice cream maker attachment for my birthday last year, along with a couple of amazing ice cream cookbooks, and oh.my.g*d - homemade ice cream is awesome.  But I strongly recommend moderation for all those like me whose wedding dresses have been ordered and need to be fit in to this summer/fall! ;)

Probably the best purchase of your life! I do not agree, however, on walking away from beating egg whites or say cream. You walk away and it happens so fast by the time you are back the egg whites are tough. My recommandation is to start making your own whipped cream! So easy and omg it is so amazing. Its just heavy whipping cream, a dash of vanilla, and sugar! To take it further find some mousse recipes. You will be astounded at how easy and DELICIOUS a treat pumpkin or chocolate mousse is!

@totheislnds: I was just going to say I make pizza dough in ours all the time.

Homemade ravioli with the pasta maker.

@Lalai: Um, now I'm totally putting this on my birthday wish list.

Ohhh definitely go for the ice cream maker attachment!

I have a separate ice cream maker but I would probably go with the KA attachment otherwise. I made the most incredible Cookies & Cream ice cream a few weeks ago! It is great for sorbets too- strawberry, mango, pineapple, etc. Cheap desserts when the fruit is in season :)

The Kitchen Aid was the first appliance my mother bought me when I got an apartment in college.  It is THAT ingrained in our lives.  I have pictures of me at 3 years old standing on a stool next to her mixer (still going strong...it's about 30 years old!) "helping" with cookies.

I'm a baker, so I eventually sold mine and upgraded to the Cuisinart.  I don't think they're made the same way as they used to.  My mother's is still going strong.  Mine started to protest mixing thicker doughs at the 10 year mark.  I wound up upgrading to the Cuisinart.  I find the food processor attachment the most useful...I think there's one for Kitchen Aid.

My Cuisinart with the food processor attachment...before I got granite countertops. :)

I finally got it... now what?! (Kitchenaid Stand Mixer) : wedding DSC 0064

Anyway, it sounds like it's time to make some cookies!
