The dress is beautiful, very romantic! I don't have personal experience with buying a dress off of Etsy or online at all.
i didnt buy a dress online but if you feel so strongly about why not go for it? I would be hesitant if they don't have a good return policy.
I would be more comfortable taking the pic to a local dressmaker so I can go in for fittings and make adjustments as we go along.
@florence: Beautiful! My only concern is the bust line...not to be rude or anything but are you small chested? It doesnt seem appropriate for someone that might need some support up there. Congrats on a beautiful Etsy find! Read all the reviews you can and maybe shoot her over an "Im interested but have concerns about x, y and z" email and see how she may reply, just get a jist of her punctuality.
@MASPA: You're right, I am a bit nervous about their return policy. They do not accept returns apparently because they are custom-made dresses. It does say that if there is something physically wrong with the dress then something can be worked out. The reviews are fantastic except that a few people noted having to have some substantial alterations done. I will give it some due thought still.
@CupCakeMeg: I would have to ask about that. I am not extremely small chested but I don't spill out of things either, so I'd have to see. I definitely wouldn't want to risk a wardrobe malfunction like that.
See if you can get a seamstress to copy it. It would be better to have to fix something while it's being made rather than after. It's quite a simple dress, and should only cost a few hundred dollars rather than $659. That's a lot of money.
It's quite similar to style C in this pattern, just longer, with a train, and nix the bow on the front. Add a tulle overlay, and it's quite a simple pattern.

@cubicalmouse: Thanks for the link! Yea I have taken a look at some seamstress services offered in my area. Really hoping I can find someone great because damn, I love that dress, but really don't want to pay too much for something I could have for hundreds of dollars less.
That is a great find!!!
It is beautiful and the etsy seller actually posts a picture of what the replica will look like, not the designer picture, so you know what you will get and exactly what it looks like!
It is a gorgeous gown but I would be worried about the return policy. Also, the $400 deposit is non refundable.
Can you go to bridal stores and try on similar gowns? See if you can find anything that tops it? If you can't then you will know it's your gown.
Usually the issue with replicas is that they look nothing like the picture because of course they are using the designer's images and have never actually seen the gown. I know many brides love their replica's and end up with gorgeous dresses, I'm just saying when there is an issue that is usually the case. Or the dress not fitting properly.
But she has pictures of the replica so you know exactly what you will get. If you try on similar gowns you can have an idea of how the gown will look on you and perhaps that can help you make up your mind.
I love this dress too, but I was concerned about the bust area... it looks a little hard to wear. On the real bride photo from her listing, it looks like it would have to fit just right... and that might be tough to do without in person fittings?
@Paula Daley: To be honest, I have been underwhelmed by the selection at the bridal shops in my area. For this reason, I have decided that my options are to either buy online or work with a seamstress in town. I think it's very possible that I can find someone local who could make this dress for me, and for less. Since I am quite particular, this would probably be the best bet. Hopefully I have some luck!
I wonder if she could "open the cup"... yes, I totally heard that on Say Yes to the Dress! Right now it's so flat against the chest. Would it change the look of the dress to have actual cups?
I just found this Essence of Australia (D1220) that looks pretty close to the Etsy dress...

@Florence:
I'm really sorry to hear that.. Is it that there are not many around your area or just sub par?
It would be great just to try the same silhouette just to get an idea of how the final product is going to look on you.
A local seamstress does sound like the best idea plus you can always go check the progress of the dress versus waiting for someone to respond to an e-mail!
My suggestion is just research, research, research when searching for a seamstress. Ask her for references, and not only pictures of her work but also samples. I would also ask her if she based her design off the original designer picture. I would ask for both so you can get an idea of how closely her gowns look to the original picture.
Let us know the results!!
i love it! I may actually use the same etsy shop! I emailed back and forth a bit with the owner a few weeks ago to get a quote for a dress I liked. She seems good, has great reviews. She said almost everyone should plan on getting alterations once the dress arrives, so that should be factored into your budget as well. Good luck! If you decide to go with it, please post pics when it arrives or even PM me!! I'm very curious to see how it turns out. :)
I wonder if Mrs. Cowboy Boot knows her pic is on Etsy? (that's her in the last picture!)
agree with a PP that it doesn't seem like it should cost $659. Not to say that it looks cheap, I just feel you can find a similar gown at a better value. One that you can actually try on and fall in love with without a potential buyers remorse. Have you already started shopping and trying stuff on?
@JeniRae: I don't think that's a real bride in the photo... I posted the stock pic from the Essence website.
@jjmomma: I don't know, I think JeniRae is right...that looks exactly like Mrs. Cowboy Boot and her husband.
@jjmomma: The last picture on Etsy. Interesting!
Beautiful dress :)
Do y'all mean the pic from Etsy... or the photo half-way down the thread that I posted?
I found that forum a few months ago because I was about 2 clicks away from ordering a dress from her! Etsy is just about as weird as ebay, there are just fewer sellers.
I think that Essence dress is so similar... I'd skip the Etsy seller and look for the Essence sample...
Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I have found a potential seamstress in town, so I will get the conversation going with her and see what her work is like. I am also going to try to get some references so I know if she does things in a timely, courteous fashion. I really do not want to have to deal with someone who is the type to smoke while making my dress and not communicate properly, etc. so I will research as much as possible.
@jjmomma: I do really love that gown, but I don't like the waist detail (I'm weird, maybe) so I would still like to have something custom-made.
I was just about to post the link about her reviews, another thing.. Etsy sellers can delete their negative feedback to make it look like they only have positive ones. So watch out for that! :)
@Miss Marbles: No kidding, that is not really a great feature of the website if you ask me.
@JeniRae:@Bubu82: That's definitely Mrs CB...the picture is in her recaps: http://www.weddingbee.com/2009/12/01/love-at-the-ranch-the-ceremony-part-ii/#more-120106
OP: It's a beautiful dress, but I'd be very wary about buying something that pricey from the internet. I'd see if I could find someone to make it for me.
@florence:I think the dress is really beautiful however that is very expensive for what it is. We sell this dress in our shop that reminds me very much of the etsy dress it is by Casablanca and they are a fantasic bridal designer to work with, they would custom change the beaded sash to be a simple rouched waist band if that is what you would preffer. http://www.casablancabridal.com/collections/view/30.
And the Casablanca gown would not be much more that the etsy dress. {self promotion removed}
Best of luck.
@Miss Marbles: There's no way to delete feedback on Etsy (I have a shop). If you do get negative feedback, you can ask the purchaser to "kiss and make up" which then gives the purchaser the option of changing the feedback to neutral or positive. I once had an item arrive damaged by the mail service, I sent her a new one when I found out, we kissed and made up, and it was a much better situation all around :) Sorry to threadjack OP!
@bakerella: Not a problem. That must be a lot of effort for the people at bridalbliss to try and maintain their feedback when clearly numerous people have had less-than-favorable experiences. I'm still glad I have ultimately decided not to buy from them.

it is on Etsy, I should note.
Here it is:

The feedback is great for this shop, and I have never felt such a pull to buy a dress.
What do you think, of the dress and/or buying off Etsy?
