It could be nothing, before you worry yourself into a panic simply make a Doctor’s appointment. As young women, our bodies do go through changes and the lump could be swollen lymphnodes. Please don’t stress it won’t do any good- I hope it’s nothing!

FutureMrsHodgy:  Can you email your doctor’s office to try to make an appointment?

Or some places let you make appointments online.

I really hope it’s nothing. Keep us updated!

FutureMrsHodgy:  Go straight to the doctor, do not pass go, do not collect $200.

The first time you find a lump is super scary. I was under 18 when I found my first. Nothing anyone here says will calm your nerves. Be proactive and see a doctor. Be insistant, do not let them fob you off. Even with a family history of breast cancer the odds are in your favour being young and the majority of breast cancers are not found from actual lumps. I hope that all it will be is your run of the mill cyst due to hormones.

And the most important thing to remember about breast cancer in this modern age is that when detected early survival rates are in your favour and even if a later stage cancer is found current treatments are so effective at beating cancer.

Also the best advice I can give is not to look at all those cancer websites out there. All it will do is make the unkown worse and fill your head with information you don’t need right now and hopefully never will.

Now ring your doctor!

FutureMrsHodgy:  Yes, I did too. I got an ultrasound the next week. One week will be fine, just make an appt as soon as you can to ease your worries. It ended up being nothing, the doctor told me I have dense breasts, which is how it should be in young women. Of course see your doc as soon as you get home from vacation, but for now take a deep breath and enjoy the rest of your holiday.

It could be nothing which is quite possible if you drink a lot of caffeine.   I wouldn’t hesitate to get it thoroughly checked out.  Good luck to you.

You could end up like me and be put on your yearly mammograms at a young age.  I was 23 when I began yearly exams.

FutureMrsHodgy:  it could be just a cyst or a fibroedenoma.  Because you are young, you will probably be perfectly fine, but you do have to go to your doctor and get this checked out ASAP.  Good luck!!!!

OK, I don’t want to worry you, but you need to get this checked asap when you get home. I’m 29, and I found a lump in my breast,  the Dr tried to tell me not to worry and that it was hormonal but it was only when I insisted on being referred to a specialist  that we discovered it was cancer. I have no family history of it so I’m just unlucky I guess! I have my last chemo today and although I lost my hair I’ve stayed pretty healthy throughout so even if it is cancer there is so much they can do now. Please try not to worry until you have seen your Dr, but if you want to message me with any questions then please feel free x

Where is your lump? How big is it? How deep into the tissue is it? Does it seem to pull the tissue around the lump, or is it just there? How freely does it move? Does it hurt when you put pressure on it? Is the breast with the lump changing in any way? Like, is it bigger or smaller than it used to be, and how does it compare with your other breast? How does the skin on your breast look? Is it still smooth, or is it looking pitted like an orange peel?

I’m no doctor, but it sounds like a fibrocystic lump, which is nothing to worry about. I have several and they are not cancer! Just fatty lumps. You still need to get it checked out. Your doc will prob send you for a mammogram. If he feels it and tells you not to worry, you can always ask for the boob crusher. You’re still better safe than sorry.

Caffeine can totally cause fibrocystic lumps, and getting sick a lot is more indicitive of a bone marrow cancer, not breast. Sorry I didn’t address the other concerns. Try not to stress about the lump until you talk to your doctor. It sounds like you have a lot on your plate. Work on some deep breathing exercises and simple stretching, like yoga if you like that.
