    Hey Ladies,

I think I have bored my MOH and BMs to death with wedding chat, so I just need someone to vent to.

So, I have found my dream dress.  I saw the picture online when we first got engaged, and I knew that it was the perfect dress.  None of the stores in town carried the dress in a size large enough for me to get into, so I had given up on getting it.  But last week I found a shop an hour away that carries it in a 14, so I went to try it on.  ahhh, I am in love.  It is the Paloma Blanca style 4165.  It is wonderful, but it is slightly more than I wanted to spend.

The dress is $1,700 and right now the store is offering no taxes.  Because I need it in a size larger than 14, there is a $150 surrcharge.  But the store spoke with the manufacturer, and for $250 (instead of $150) they will make the dress to my measurements.  I have recently started working out and watching what I eat, so I am worried that if I order it right now, my measurements will change by the time it comes in.

I had hoped to keep the cost for my dress and alterations under $2,000, but this dress will be almost $2000 on its own.  I am worried about how much it will cost to alter the dress once it comes in.  I am also thinking of adding straps to the dress, but am worried about how it will look.

I would love to hear someone's thoughts on the situation.

Thats tough have you looked through other designers if you can fin something in that similar style for less or would you consider buying a preowned dress? Losing weight is tough for some people but if you get straight to doing what you need to to lose the pounds theres a good chance you may fit into a smaller size in 9mnths at the time for alterations.

Very pretty dress!  It seems like a design that you should be able to find a very similar one by another designer that might be a bit cheaper.  When you're looking around, keep in mind that any straight bodice can be made into a sweetheart, and if it's plain, they can add the embellishment to the side.  For instance, this dress isn't a perfect match, but it's close, and you could remove the sparkly embellishment and add something more similar to the one you like:  http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Sweetheart-Strapless-Organza-Transformer-Gown-KP3265_Bridal-Gowns-Shop-By-Designer-Davids-Bridal-Collection

Here's another similar one, you could remove the belt and add the embellishment that you like:  http://www.alfredangelo.com/collections/productdisplay.aspx?productID=37137a1e-6e95-44b9-98a4-67ded9912d79&categoryID=32e5a88c-cbf1-498f-afcf-dbfca138c5d3&pg=0&colorId1=

@Tigrrlily04: Thanks so much for the other options.  Part of the reason why I love the dress so much is the material.  It is made of raw silk which makes it so light and soft (and so expensive...lol)

I have tried on a ton of other dresses that are similar, but none of them make me feel like that one.  I guess I wouldn't have as much of an issue with it if I knew I wouldn't have to pay to do a lot of alterations later on.  I don't want to pay extra money to have it made to measure, only to find out that it still has to be altered.

I say go for the dress! I went with a cheaper dress thinking it was the one and it so isn't. I am going to go the route that I knew I should of went in the first place. Unfortunately it is going to be more expensive but it is only your wedding day once. Good luck!

We are dang near date and name twins! Have you taken a peek at any of the pre-owned dress sites? Like oncewed.com? It's such a pretty dress. I will keep an eye out for it and similar gowns.

if thats your dress, then that is your dress!!! dont worry about the other things. it sounds like you are over budget by a few hundred, not the girls that are over by thousands. by the time the wedding comes you will be able to cut costs somewhere else to make up for it....a cheaper form of flower, a less expensive veil, ect. dont worry about that for now. and dont stress over the alterations, the dress could arrive and be a perfect fit! i say no to the straps however, i love the simpleness and how your eye goes right to the beautiful waist. and truth be told (and ever say yes to the dress confirmed it lol) sometimes adding straps is less flattering!

Wait for a sample sale at that store, I almost bought a Mikaella (sister company to Paloma Blanca) for $750 and it was brand new, no one had even tried it on.

@Kat212:  What about buying it used?  Not sure of your size, but here's a label 16/street 12 used:

If you think it's the perfect dress, I vote go ahead and order it.

It's really up to you on whether or not to get it made to your measurements. If you think you'll stay roughly the same size, then I would move forward with that option. My wedding dress was made to my measurements and the only alterations I needed to do was have cups sewn in.
