before I tried this on, I'd been going for column silhouettes, subtle mermaids, a-lines, etc. really slinky, figure-hugging stuff. never in a million years would I have thought to go for a princess ballgown!! but as soon as she put it on me, I knew it was the one. all the other dresses before were "OK", but I felt like I was borrowing someone else's clothes, playing dress-up. I tried on more dresses after this but nothing rang a bell like this!!

after I got home, I googled the dress name and... it's the same as my name ("Ilys"; I'm Lily. so it's "Lilys"... hahaha)! also the location of the store + floor number = my fiance's birthday, hahaha. it was ~meant to be. :'D

so girls, it's true! once you find it you'll know!!! don't be afraid to try on all sorts of different shapes and fabrics, stuff you'd never even consider on the model. this is the dress on the model:

a completely different feeling!! if the shopkeep hadn't pulled it for me I really wouldn't have tried it. so excited, really wanted to share!! before I tried on this dress I was feeling pretty down because nothing really suit me and I was beginning to think I can't pull off wedding dresses. don't lose hope! you'll find "the one" if you haven't already. :)

ee I'm so happy!! I still can't believe it was just that easy, because the experience leading up to that moment said otherwise. I totally thought I'd have to settle for a dress I was "alright" with, and that I wouldn't have an "omg!" moment. but it happened! n___n

    oh and here's the back!

I agree. So much nicer on you than the model. Makes your waist look tiny! Who makes this dress? It's lovely.

That looks terrible on the model. But you look like you are wearing it so well! Congratulations! My only complaint with it is it doesn't go with your whiskers or sunglasses.

thanks everyone! I'm beaming here. Cool I don't think I'll doubt my choice. it didn't go over budget either, so I'm super happy with how everything worked out!

@MrsFutureG: haha!! it's tough finding stuff that goes with whiskers and sunglasses, unfortunately. :P

@graciej: it's Ilys by Rivini! without looking at brands, the only other dress I tried that could possibly be a contender for this one was also a Rivini. I guess Rivini styles are good to me!

thanks soo much everyone!! n____n I'm still surprised it was just that easy.

@intrepida_ets: we don't know yet... may have jumped the gun getting this dress sooo early haha. we're not having the actual ceremony for at least another year, maybe two!!! how should I store the dress for that long? I wonder if I can ask the shop to store it for me... and should I get it altered now, or wait until 8 months before the date? what if I gain/lose weight/ahhhhgg

alright I have to ask a harsh question... is this dress worth 6.5k? I didn't realize before the other thread (someone here asked if their dress was worth 7k) that it was considered a lot of money for a dress. I have the budget, it's not a problem, I was just happy it wasn't over 10k... but I honestly thought most people got dresses in the 3-5k range, and that mine was only SLIGHTLY over the "norm". but now I'm reading that people get dresses in the hundreds range??

I don't want to go back to dress-shopping and I do personally like this dress, but I have to ask if you guys can even tell this is a good quality dress. or would you think it's a really cheap dress, since it's so simple! would like honest opinions, just so I know. how much would you guess this dress to be? *nervous*

My first impression was that I loved the dress and that it looked amazing on you but when I read it was 7k I was surprised

All that really matters though is that you love it and you can afford it, I think thats gives it real value

thanks for your honest reply! I was surprised to find out 7k was NOT the norm. but perhaps because I'm in hong kong? I didn't find many dresses under 3k anyway. anything under 3k tended to feel plastic and cheap. :( maybe I would've had better luck overseas... no idea what makes a dress more expensive! I tried on 2 VW dresses at another store, and afterwards was surprised to find out one was 10k+ while one was 4k. they both felt the same quality-wise, just the 10k one had more curves (mermaid vs a-line). I really don't know, lol.

I love this dress but if I coud find a similar dress for half the price then I'd feel like I haven't tried hard enough to save money haha.

thanks! but I brought up this thread again because I'm now wondering if it's worth the money (seeing as it's quite a simple dress). maybe I'll make a new topic later since I can't change the title of this thread, and it's quite misleading. xD

It is a nice dress! Love it. I tried on the rivini tahlia at Kleinfeld and loved it too, rivini gowns are beautifully made. Ended up with another mermaid for a longer train tho.

Im also from Hong Kong (notice from your other post), where did you find the Rivini dresses in HK?

If you love the dress and you can afford it, then it doesn't really matter what others think. You look beautiful in it and I agree with the PPs, even better than the model!
