I’m so excited. She’s a good friend of mine and I can’t believe I didn’t think of her before. There are a few doubts about her though
1. She’s never done a wedding before
2. She’s never really done photography for sale period
3. She’s not going to school for photography as a major.
BUT needless to say, her stuff is REALLY good.
Right now I’m just waiting for her to get a number in her head that she’s going to charge me.
What do you guys think?

As an amateur photographer, and someone who knows many other amateur photographers, being a good photographer of landscapes, animals, etc. is completely different from being a wedding photographer. Wedding photographers are kind of a different breed–they’re the kind of person who can get anywhere, move around, and predict peoples’ movements. I’m sure she’d be fine for taking family photos, but the candid shots during the ceremony and reception might not be that great. This is a great choice for someone on a budget, but I personally would not go with someone like this. You only get one chance to capture certain moments, and I dont know that I could trust someone with little/no experience with this.
I am on a budget too, and we are having a friend photograph during the times we dont have a hired professional there, so I can see why you would use this option, but if you are expecting an amateur to capture the moments as you remember them, then dont get your hopes up. One of my best friends got married a few years ago, and her sister in law took their pictures–everything was blurry, and there was a ton of noise in the photos; those are the only pictures she has of her wedding.
I guess in short, consider how you might feel afterward if your friend doesnt get very good pictures–will that upset you? If it doesnt, then I say go for it, but if this is something that’s important to you, then spend the extra money to hire someone who has a little experience–you can always bargain with photographers! We got a great deal with some great professionals because we were willing to tell them about our situation and what we were looking for. Dont be afraid to shop!
