- Wedding: June 2011
I just wanted to take a moment to talk up the benefits of utilizing your friends as a wedding resource.
From day one, I knew that we were going to have friends helping with the wedding. Our very close friend is a professional photographer, and though she isn’t shooting the wedding for free, we are getting an amazing discount.
We also are lucky enough to have a free calligrapher. We have a friend who is amazing at it (she could have a profitable business if she wanted to) but she does it for free for her friends. She has only ever charged friends of friends, and though I keep telling her that she should start a little side business, she’s just wants to keep it in the hobby sector of her life.
I am also fortunate to have a close friend who is about to graduate with a degree in event management. Lucky me, I have a free DOC! But she’s really more than just a DOC- because she’s a friend, I can meet with her to plan, hash out ideas, brainstorm… pretty much whatever I need her for. And she gets the benefit of using our wedding in her portfolio and using us as a reference for her resume.
And that’s just the tip of the friends/family helping cake. I am doing a lot of DIY projects, so I know that I will have tons of help as I go along, be it specific projects or just willing volunteers.
And everyone who is helping us knows that their services count as their gift to us.
So this post is primarily to spotlight the amazing people I’m lucky to have in my life, but also to encourage other brides to utilize the people who love them most in order to save money and also have a more personal day.
Has anybody else had the good fortune of talented and helpful friends?
