jesssamesssa: Congrats!! Are you an engineer? My dad’s an aerospace engineer and worked for Grumman for years and loved it there.

littlegraykitten: Nope! I am in IT. 🙂 I was shocked to receive a call from them. Its so hard to get a job there if you dont know someone who is already there!

jesssamesssa: Yay congrats! Were you the one who was thinking about going into IT a few months back and wanted to know what certifications you would need? If so, may I ask what steps you took in terms of certs/education? I’ve been thinking a lot about a career change myself and our IT guy once joked that I could put him out of a job so maybe going into the IT field would be the right move for me! 🙂
ETA: My friend works for NG as an engineer and loves it!

TLDR: Yep! that is me!!!!! I started at Mycomputercareer.edu in January. I have 3 1/2 certifications right now. MTA:Networking Fundamentals, MTA: Windows 7 Operating System, CompTIA Network +, and half of my CompTIA A+ (it has two parts) I dont know if they have a school where you are but you can always self study. The exams are expensive so be ready for that. All of my exams are included in my tuition. Once I obtained one certification I put my resume on Careerbuilder and I got a call from a few recruiters. I accepted a temporary contract position doing help desk and it lasted for weekend. But I was able to gain experience and put that on my resume. Once I added my Net+ certification I received so many more phone calls. I turned in a lot of resumes and I was called about two job positions. Both interviews were Wedneday. Three hours after my interview with NGC I got the call that they wanted to hire me. I still havent heard from the other company but I know I was in the top two as of yesterday when I was called to talk to my recruiter.

Congrats! I’m an engineer at one of your competitors! =P The great thing about these govt contract companies (in engineering at least, i’m not sure if IT is the same way) is 9/80 shedules, mod time, and they totally (at least for non management level) respect a true 8 or 9 hour work day and dont expect unpaid casual overtime like other companies, and super flexible! In fact.. I’m leaving right now to start my weekend! =D
