I wrote to Queen Elizabeth and she sent my fiance a congratulatory letter; they will only respond to English citizens

I also invited the pope and Barack Obama, but alas no response

has anyone else had luck getting letters from any bigwigs?

we are going to frame it and put it on the credenza it'll be so cool!

That's really neat! I definately intend on inviting the Prez, and maybe some of my FI's fave rock stars or something.

Wow, I never knew you could do that!  That's impressive if you can get the President or the Pope to your wedding!

We haven't heard back from the Obamas.  I thought the office of protocol was supposed to send back a congratulatory form letter :(

I don't know about the other bigwigs but I heard that the protocol for getting a response from the greeting room of the US president is to send the invitation AFTER the wedding.

@ilovenycmissie my fiance is English as well.  What did you say in your letter?  Did you just send the invitation?

The thing that brought FH and I together was Chuck Norris so we'll be inviting him- LOL! And I had a dream about BD Wong being at my wedding once and my best friend decided we should invite him as well (he's the psychologist on Law and Order SVU and was Martin Short's assistant in the Father of the Bride series)

Won't be inviting the prez though since we're conservative and not really a fan of this administration.

We also invited President and Mrs. Obama, but did not receive a response.  I thought they were supposed to send something out to everyone?  Oh well...

That's awesome about the Queen!  So fun!  I want to 'invite' Tony Romo as we share a love of the Cowboys and football.  Also thought about inviting former President - we're R's too @ kjpugs!

I saw where someone invited Mickey and Minnie Mouse and got a signed picture back in a month - thought that great to add to the wedding scrapbook too :)  And without seeing I would have never thought about Mickey and Minnie!

Hmm... my FI was born in England and lived there as a child.  He still has dual citizenship so I wonder if they would send us a letter too.  How did you go about writing to the Queen?

@kjpugs - I'm conservative too, but I still think it's cool to get something back from the White House regardless of my feelings towards the current President.

@mandalynn - not saying people shouldn't who are repub's just saying I am not going to! Nothing against those who do though!

I'm just more of the kind of person who would invite Rush Limbaugh than the Obamas, LOL. But no disrespect to anyone :)

Despite not being big Disneyland fans (we love Disneyland, but only as much as normal folk do!) we sent invites to Mickey and Minnie and got a signed picutre (personalized, with our names) and a button.  No response from the Obamas, though... I have a feeling that, what with it still being a new office, they're slightly busy!

    That's very cool!

I thought it would be cool to send an invite to the President, but my conservative fiance just rolled his eyes. And I didn't have any extra invitations-I would have had to make another. And now that I hear you ladies haven't recieved a response, I'm glad I didn't.

You don't have to send an invite to get a greeting from the President on your wedding - Bush had a form you could fill out on the website (I filled it out for a friend who got married last year who were not Bush supporters, and they were a little confused when they got the greeting after the wedding!).  From what I understand, they won't send the greeting until after the wedding has passed, so sending it far in advance isn't always a good idea.

We invited the President & Mrs. Obama, The Washington Redskins & Mickey Mouse. We got a response from Mickey almost instantly-quicker than most of our guests responded! We got an autographed photo of him and Minnie and a "just married" button from Disneyland. We're putting both in our wedding scrapbook.
