@S_loves_C:  First, yay! Your waiting days are coming to an end!

I never knew how great timelines where until I was given one. My favorite thing about a timeline is the sigh of relief that comes with it. Before my SO gave me a timeline, I was on edge, wondering if a proposal would come out of the blue.

All guys are different though. It’s hard to guess when it will be, but I think it’s safe to say that it will be before the holidays next year, probably by a couple months.

    Good luck!!

Yay! How exciting. I voted for your anniversary in march, but maybe he has some other special date or season in mind. Now you get to enjoy your waiting days calmly – there’s not many left!

That’s exciting news! If I were you, every big event from here until it happens would have me questioning if this was it… but hopefully you can just enjoy the waiting days and be happy that it’s on its way!

IMO men are so unpredictable who the heck knows.  Mine gave me a 6 month timeline (which he forgot he gave me when I mentioned a week later, it was given in a party/social situation like yours).  He said 6 months (which would be a week after Valentine’s day).  We went and bought the ring Monday (right at 3 months into the timeline).  By the time it’s made and he proposes, my guess is it’ll be 4.5 to 5 months in.  I’m happy, he bought the ring at half his timeline which made me feel special and like it was something he really wanted.  But it totally threw me off guard because I honestly thought Valentines Day would come and go and that all kinds of hell was going to break out (including the vase I was going to break over his head.)

Looking at the boards, some guys say a year and then propose 2 months later.  Even more say a year and then some life event stretches it farther.  But since the most anxious of us end up on here I think the balance of timeline breakers is greatly exaggerated.  I put next Holiday Season because I would die if I had a years worth of holidays and vacations hoping each one was “THE DAY”.  So I’m the type to be pessimistic so I get happy surprises instead of feeling let down.

Secretly I hope you get it Valentine’s Day!!!!!!

If he’s like my husband, who told me that we’d be engaged by the holidays when I asked in February 2012, he’ll wait until the very last minute (for us, the Sunday before Thanksgiving 2012).

@S_loves_C:  I’m going to be a little bit of a Debbie Downer.  I’m super excited for you, and I hope hope hope he sticks to his timeline.  Don’t read to much into anything.  My FH gave me a timeline (which he didn’t stick to) and for that whole year anytime we did ANYTHING I got my hopes up, I almost ruined several special events because of it.  I would encourage you to try and put it out of your mind as best you can and enjoy things for what they are and try not to think that ‘this might be it’ everytime you make plans.
