I just need some words of comfort. I was driving today and I noticed that the guy behind me was drinking a beer in his car. I wanted to pull over into the parking lot up ahead to call the police, but as I pulled out of my lane, I smashed my car into the vehicle ahead of me. We were about 6-7 cars back from a light that had turned green and all the cars around us were moving. I saw an opening in my sideview mirror and began to switch lanes when I realised [too late!]the car in front of me didn’t move yet! 🙁 the damage to his car is fairly minimal just a crack in the bumper, but since it was an SUV he was driving, his bumper was at the perfect level to basically bash my headlight clean in. My car is pretty messed up.
I know it was my fault, I should have made sure the car in front of me was moving before I made my lane change, but I was so stunned and upset! The guy was pretty mean about it too, luckily his wife was there and she was nice about the whole thing. He didn’t really even care about the damage, he even said so, as it was a company car. I’ve never had an accident before or any traffic or parking violations so I was just sobbing like a baby filling out the police report.
And to make it wedding related, I’m a wedding planner and I had a meeting with clients tonight which I had to miss which put even more of a damper on my evening. I felt so bad that I wasn’t able to make it but they were very nice about it. They are just extremely busy people who are hard to get in the same place at the same time, so this was just a bummer that this had to happen today!
I’m just rattled over the whole situation and stressed that I have to use my tax return which I was using for my friend’s destination wedding for this now due to my carelessness. I know worse things could have happened, but this is not fun either way and though my boyfriend has been helpful and sweet about it all, I’m still down in the dumps about it!

Oh, I am so sorry! Did you get checked out? I hope that you are okay. Take it easy tonight, because you might have some soreness tomorrow. You had the best of intentions and anybody can make an error sometimes. We are only human, after all. 🙂

I’m sorry that happened. Won’t the insurance cover most of the damages except your deductible? Take it easy, you might notice some whiplash tomorrow after the adrenaline wears off.

I’m so sorry to hear about this!! Accidents happen to the best of us though. I think most of us have cried to the police one time or another (my car was broken into last year and by the time the officer wrote up the police report I had totally lost it and was also crying like a baby)
If your wedding clients have any sort of a heart I’m sure they are understanding of your situation. Other than rattled and upset, are you okay otherwise?

Agreed with the previous posters! I’m sorry, but I’m glad you’re okay. I would’ve been crying like a baby too. Hugs!

i am SO sorry!!! i hit someone else’s car in the parking lot at work two months ago – totally my own fault – this all during a time when it was just RAINING crap down on us. 🙁
i wish i could take it away for you – but i promise things will get better.

Thanks everyone, that’s just what I needed. I wasn’t going fast at all, I doubt I will have whiplash, but I will take it easy just in case.
My insurance will cover it, yes, but it is a lot of damage. I’m not sure completely if I will be putting it through insurance. Either way I will be paying up whether it is now all at once to cover the damages or for a very long time with the increase in my insurance. Plus my insurance is connected to my parents’, so they will be affected by it as well [which makes me feel pretty bad!] The other guy will be putting his through my insurance since it’s his company car, so I will be affected by that as well.
The cop at the station felt bad for me, I think. She said ‘is this your first accident?’ and I gulped out ‘yes’ and she said ‘oh don’t worry, they get easier’ lol! I said I didn’t plan on having this happen again if I could help it.
Thanks again everyone, I appreciate your comforting words. It’s pretty surreal when you realise that you just smoked the car in front of you… felt like a weird dream!

My fiance crashed my navigator last winter…..I was telling him to slow down on the corner b/c it was icy and he goes I amgoing 10 under and we slid right into a guard rail….wrecked the WHOLE side of my truck! I crawled out the passenger window….the police came I yelled at them cried on their sholder yelled at them again yelled at my fiance cried some more…..I think they see it everyday. Worst part is one of the officers is now our new neighbor! he always jokes about it! asks my FI if he has moved off the couch yet LOL Oh and my FMIL told me one day I would look back and laugh…I hated her for saying that and now here I am laughing about it!
I am sorry your day wasnt the greatest…but there is always tomorrow!

So, my insurance had a first accident forgiveness (and actually, my second accident was forgiven to, because there was minimal damages). I was told that for my insurance policy, anything less than $1000 or $1500 was not really considered an accident. My “good driver” discount of $30 went away though.
