- Wedding: November 1999
So, I found my dream dress back in November, but it was a heck of an ordeal. My grandma was ill and in the hospital, and as I was visiting with her on the phone that day she told me to go dress shopping. Why not? My sister and I went to just check for fun, and I found it, my dress. Still, it was 1K – not in my budget – but I was thrilled and promised myself I’d watch for a sale. Sadly, my grandma passed away that night and I never got to show her.
Arranging for her funeral took a while, so my siblings and mom and I were all with my grandpa for nearly a week. I wanted to look up the dress online and show my mom, but it was no longer there – it had been discontinued! So on top of what my family was dealing with (I was very close to my grandma), I was watching my dream dress slip away. I called around to local stores to see if anyone had it, but no dice. And, I didn’t really have the money to buy it even if one was ready for me.
I gave one last call to the store where I’d originally tried it on, letting them know that I thought the gown had been discontinued and asked if they could possibly do anything for me…after a few minutes on hold, I was offered half price! They even held it for me until I got back to town. I went and picked it up with my best girlfriend, and while we were so excited and she got teary, I was still too upset from the loss to be that excited. I brought it down to the bridal store were my grandpa lives, because they were the nicest gals I’d ever met and it would give me a chance to visit him more when the wedding got closer.
Today, my mom and siblings were all up at my grandpa’s again for Easter. I got to go to the bridal salon and get all dolled up. They laced me up, put on the detachable train, lent me a cathedral length veil, and then they had my mom come into the room. She was teary right away, and of course I got teary, too, and I got to have that special moment with my mom that a lot of girls look forward to. She got to snap a few pictures, we shared a few hugs, and we both got ‘that moment’ that wasn’t missed, but just delayed. It was a fabulous day. *thanks for letting me share*
ETA- When I’m home in a few days, if the WB is running at full force, I’ll try to update with a few photos.
