Last Saturday I planned to play dress up with my mom, grandma, godmother, sister, and bridesmaid. The plan was to try on dresses so my grandma could be part of the process, but no one expected me to buy one. The first dress I tried on was my grandmother’s, which was absolutely stunning, but I couldn’t fit into it without changing the design or removing a rib (and my grandmother wasn’t so keen on changing the design and I prefer to keep my ribs). So off we went.
We had two appointments. The first was where my mom bought her wedding dress and the second was at a store my bridesmaid got another bridesmaid dress. At the first appointment they really listened to what I said (lace, conservative strapless, button back, no lace up back, no wide skirt, no mermaid/trumpet, under $2k preferred, but $5k max). I knew the first dress she pulled was the one. I tried it on second and knew it was the one. Then I tried on 4-5 more, then was allowed to put it back on. I knew it was the one, but my mom wanted me to think it over. We went to lunch, canceled the second appointment, and then went back to the store.
It is a Mori Lee 4164 and I got it, with alterations (including cups, bustle, and button back, as well as a hem and taking in the waist and hips by several inches) for $740! That means I get to splurge on a cathederal length veil with matching lace at the edge and expensive shoes!
Here are the pics (keep in mind it will be taken in 2-3 inches (at least) at the waist and hips). They are also sneaky cell phone pics taken before we knew we would be buying it.
