After a not so successful try with a moissanite set that I had some diffculty with, I finally returned it for a refund to keep looking while I made up my mind. But I felt really bad that I was ringless. Not for me, but for my sweet Fiance who would ask every day, “Any luck with a ring yet, hon?” I started looking at Craigslist where first I found this:
for only $975 and in my size! It was very pretty and the young lady selling it and I laughed and talked- we seemed to be leading parallel lives. I really liked it but was a teensy bit worried about finding a band.
Then I stumbled across this:
for $2900 also in my size with the band. The picture above shows the .80 ct center stone/ It was a trade in/up at a local jewelry store.
When I got there the stone was removed. Another person came in and offered the jeweler a good price for the stone (it came with papers) that was .80, F in color and si1 clarity. So, the jeweler offered me the set minus the stone for $850. Aaaaahhhhh! Yay, me! Of course, he had stones to sell me after that. One was 1.21 carat F color, but had 2 feathers going on. One was tiny and at the edge and easily would have been hidden by a prong, the other one was noticeable and of course, bothered me. The other stone was 1.26 ct, G color and honestly, the clarity was troublesome. Under the loop, it just looked like it had fractures and it bothered me. (Of course it did, Deb!) Well, the pricing on the set with these larger stones was 3400 and 3200 respectively. I couldn’t do it. Don’t get me wrong- 1.25 real diamond- yum! And it looked great in the setting, but they had some real issues and I couldn’t justify paying an extra $2400+ dollars for feathers and inclusions.
So, I did the unthinkable. I said, would it be unheard of for me to have you throw a cubic zirconia in there until I decide on the right stone for me? He said, “No problem! I’m in the business of making pople happy. You have no idea how many very wealthy women I sell rings to who do just that!” I asked him how much for the cz and he said, “Don’t worry about it. It’s no charge” A few minutes later I walked out with my stunt stone, but real diamond wedding set for $850! Winner winner chicken dinner! I am so excited! 🙂
I posted a while back about a horrible jewelers wife, but thought I would share a story about my cool new jeweler friend!
Now I can move on to obsessing about a dress. July 8th is around the corner!
