Yes. I got proposed to on the news. In front of the mayor. Right before the second-largest earthquake in the state's recorded history shook the ground (barely.)

I knew he had the ring. And I was getting mighty impatient. He kept saying "You'll be surprised.."

I didn't think it was true. I had told him awhile back that I wanted to be proposed to "around a lot of people" but I'd meant friends and family......

Well, he got it into his head that he wanted to propose to me on-air. The problem is, he works at a television station. I work across town. So there was no way to get me to visit him on the job without me becoming majorly suspicious.

So he calls...MY BOSS. Who clears it with the COO, CEO and probably God. We have been publicizing an event that's coming to the city, and the day before, my boss comes and asks me to make some talking points about this event for the mayor. I spent all day trying to come up with great things to say.

So it's the day of, and I don't know for sure where the shoot with the mayor is happening. I'm too nervous to speak, and it's super early. I'm normally a behind-the-scenes sort of person, and this was my first time on a shoot. We get in the van and head out.

After driving for a little while, we reach Fox 25, where my boyfriend works. I say to my boss, "Hey, that's where my boyfriend works!" But I wasn't suspicious, cause hey, it's a news station. Interviews happen there, and that's what we were after, so...

I happen to text him, telling him I was at Fox. He said, "Really? Where? Why?" I didn't have time to answer; we unloaded the equipment and went inside.

My boss had been hoarse all morning, so right before we go on air, she pulls me aside to tell me I need to come onstage as well, in case she starts coughing.

I about had a panic attack right there. I am INCREDIBLY camera shy. And I hadn't studied the talking points at all! In that moment I was so glad that my boyfriend was around, because I would need someone's shoulder to cry on after I totally flubbed this interview with the mayor on LIVE TELEVISION.

So the mayor goes up and says his part about the event we are promoting, and then it's our turn to go up on the stage. The mayor walks offstage as we are walking on, and I'm thinking "Oh, no! Where's he going? They're going to start without him!"

I now officially have the weirdest proposal I know of. I love it because it was a surprise (and I'm a hard person to surprise!) and it was totally us. People back at my office apparently felt the earthquake and there was a bit of chaos, but I was so elated I didn't notice a thing!
