So I've had a bad feeling about dress shopping for weeks. I've been obsessing, and going back and forth...and stressing out about it. My mother kept saying "patience, the answer will come", I just was not sure what to do. And then...today...I was browsing ebay on a whim. And there it was, the dress that fit every single thing I wanted in a dress, and it was in my size, and my price range. So I bid, right then. The auction doesn't end for two days, so I'm going to be a nervous wreck, I honestly cannot afford any more than what I bid.
It's a GORGEOUS Maggie Sottero gown, and I got that "it's the one" feeling. I am SO excited and just had to share with you bees. Send prayers and good vibes my way in hopes that I win, I will be so heartbroken if I don't, I could never afford this gown retail.
It's funny because my family and I joke that you can "find anything on the internet" because my parents met on the Internet, as did FI and I. We found the engagement ring online, it would be so appropriate if I found "the dress" online too! Now to go start pawning my le creuset to help pay for it... :P
EEK! SO Excited!
Good luck! Crossing my fingers for you.
Your parents met on the internet?! Man that makes me feel old. I didn't know what the internet was till I after I graduated from college.
Whoo hoo, good luck!
I also bought my dress online. I saw it was for sale over a month ago, and kept telling myself it was impractical, I would regret buying it that way, etc. But then I kept looking at dresses and nothing was measuring up... so I went for it, and you know what? I feel so good about my decision!
@Lilyfaith: Aww yay! I love the internet.
@Meliss: Technically he's my step-Dad, they got married in '05. I always forget that, though, he's definitely my Dad, we're very close. :-)
Good luck! Yes, please share which one it is!
I think I'm going to wait to share which model it is until it's mine, only because - as much as I love you other bees, I'm afraid there may be some lurking non-bees who might be after the same dress as me! I used to get a ton of hits on weddingbee when googling for dresses before I was a member!
Two days and then I will share pictures and all! :D
Thank you...I'm sooo nervous and excited. Someone already drove up the price, but I'm still the highest bidder!
Just in case, can you snoop ebay for another listing with the same dress? In case you don't get the one you bid on? I can give you some bidding hints on how to get what you want on ebay, but I don't want to put it out there if you do end up getting it, LOL.
Ah, that makes sense. Thanks for the explanation, I feel less like a dinosaur now :)
I'm still the highest bidder, and it has about 24 hours left! *crosses fingers*
@mightysapphire: I'm pretty Ebay saavy, this has been the first listing of this particular dress in my size that I could find. Not sure what you mean by another listing with the same dress, though. It is a sample being sold by a small boutique.
Ahhhh, I'm so excited!
we are all anxiously awaiting in hopes you win it!!! And then pics of the dress are a must ! =) hehe
Of course, I will post pictures the second the auction ends! :D
Definitely let the bee know because if you don't get it, we'd be the people to find you another one! I have a Maggie that I'll be selling (erm, as in brand new, not wearing it to my wedding, not afterwards because obviously that would do you no good haha), so I am super curious.
PS -- Good luck of course!
I hope you get it!!! I can't imagine how excited/nervous you must be.
I hope you get it! At least now you've found it though, so even if you get outbid, you can start searching for it elsewhere like on preownedweddingdresses.com and whatnot!!!
24 hours now, and I'm going a little bit bonkers! I don't know if I'll be able to sleep tonight!!
I'm soooo nervous, I keep refreshing it every 15 minutes. I bid more than my original budget, even, and now I'm getting super obsessive about this auction, and second-guessing my judgement. "What if it doesn't work?" "What if it ends up being a scam?" "Should I have bid so much?" Silly irrational things, of course. But, still...
Thanks for all the support, everyone! Sooo exciting.
Okay, I'm sorry for the double post...but now I'm freaking out, so I'm going to go ahead and divulge which dress it is I'm bidding on, because now I'm worried. What if it totally doesn't suit me at all?
The dress is Maggie Sottero's Melody, in ivory. I had overlooked it on the maggie website several times, but then I saw it in the auction and it looked so pretty, and also looked like something that would flatter my curves. I'm a size 12/14, and I know that bridal gowns tend to run a bit small, so I figured a 16 would be perfect, especially with the corset back, I can always have it altered a little bit.
But now I'm thinking, what if I do win it, and then it doesn't look good on me? And...is it too formal even if I'm having a small wedding? Does it even matter, since my wedding is so non-traditional anyway?
What do you girls think?

I think it will look wonderful. Based on the tiny picture of you on your avatar, this dress will be very flattering. Good luck.
oooo I love it! I really really hope you get it!!!
Thanks! I'm still being a bit obsessive, but I'm just going to wait and see how it pans out. Just holding my breath that if I do win, it looks okay. =/
that is a BEAUTIFUL DRESS!!!!!! i <3 it and i'm sending good vibes your way, i hope you WIN it!!
It's a gorgeous dress.... It will look fabulous on you!!! I'm sending good vibes your way... Good luck!!! :)
I've got my fingers, toes and everything crossable crossed for you!
Thank you all for your encouragement! I'm SO excited...and nervous. 9 hours and counting until the auction ends, I came into a bit of extra money today, so I'm feeling better about upping my bid yesterday.
I can't concentrate on ANYTHING today though. :P I'm flitting about from one thing to another, refreshing the page every few minutes and gazing at the gown.
** sigh ** I got outbid, I can't go any higher. Ugh.
I guess the hunt is still on...
just for the future lovely lady ALWAYS wait until its about 2 minutes before the auction ends before you bid. that way no one can outbid you! Also I strongly believe sellers make fake ids to drive the price up higher. so thats why my method has ALWAYS worked without fail :)
Good luck and keep checking! And check out oncewed too!
