Awww it sounds like you have a very thoughtful FI. When you finally get your ring back just appreciate the thought he put into it and enjoy your upgrade. Maybe he's planning some kind of "2nd proposal" type thing.
Argh, I would be just as annoyed as you. I HATE it when my fiance spends more money than necessary on things that really don't matter to me.
That said, though...while I completely understand your frustration...just let it go. =) Like EAQ219 said, appreciate the work and money he put into the upgrade, and enjoy the new look (providing that you do, in fact, like it). You might make him feel bad if you go off on him for it, and that's something you don't really want to do.
(And yes, men are just as bad as women; worse, in the case of my fiance and myself -- in terms of spending money on "vain" things like jewelry, etc.)
Im sure his intensions are to make you happy... but I would also be annoyed. My engagement ring cost a mere 200$ and I was fine with that... its the story behind the ring rather than the ring itself...
But, I wouldnt of said no to a bigger ring... LOL

My fiance has this thing where he sees the ring as a symbol of our love. As such, he does not what it to be a cheap ring. That being said, when we were getting engaged, I was barely employed and he was underemployed. We found a ring I loved for $700. I thought the whole thing was done with. I was happy with the ring. He then tells me he needs it for a little while. I thought he was going to have a band made to go with it. It has now been 3 weeks, and I have been harassing him. He told one of our friends he took it in to have it fixed. When they asked what was wrong, he said "it wasn't big enough." Should I be happy if I get a bigger ring because it makes him happy? I was 100% content with what I had and am frustrated because I have been without for 3 weeks. UGH. I swear, sometimes men have as many issues as us women!!
