Last night I had a dream I almost cheated on my SO with a long time friend- Let’s call him “Bill.”
I don’t believe dreams mean anything- they’re just your brain smushing the day’s events together in a weird way and replaying all of it, but still, I feel awful.
My FI can tell something’s wrong but somehow I feel it’ll hurt him if he finds out I had a dream where I made out with “Bill” who he knows I had a thing with in the past.
“Bill” and I grew up together since we were kids, had a thing for a bit, and still have definite chemistry, but it never turned into anything serious for a lot of reasons. We’re still close friends though, and me, him, and my SO hang out quite a bit.
Let me make it clear that I love my FI with my WHOLE HEART and would never dream of even making advances on a guy, much less taking it all the way and actually cheating on him. Nor, despite the chemistry, do I want any sort of relationship with “Bill” other than the friendship that we have right now.
Has anyone else had a dream where they cheated?

I have these dreams all the time. I know it’s a little disturbing when I first wake up, but then you just have to go, “eh…brains are weird.” No reason to tell your SO about them.

If you need to tell him something, tell him it was a dream about another guy, and since you’d never do that it is troubling you. No need to mention Bill’s name.

@LeavinOnAJetPlane: I used to have dreams like that when I was engaged too. I think they are pretty normal. Don’t even worry about them. The more “attention” you give them, the more they will come around.

@LeavinOnAJetPlane: When me and FI were first dating I had hung out with his roommate and best friend Joe all day while FI was at work. That night FI (then only BF)said I was moaning in my sleep and asked about my dream. I spoke before I thought and was honest- “I had a naughty dream about me and Joe”
He was a little freaked out and was jealous for a few weeks, but he got over it and now teases me whenever Joe comes up in conversation
It’s no big deal. Our minds play funny tricks on us sometimes. I’ve dreamed that I was batgirl and saved the city in the nude before.

ummmm… YES! I have dreams about old flames, good friends, making an Adrien Brody- Ron Pearlman sandwich with me as the filling and this one about me rolling a giant doughnut through my office naked…but whatever!
Dreams are not something you control, in fact it’s an upside down, thinly veiled, super confusing garbage dump for your conscious mind to lighten the load of things that are taking up space.
I never, judge, edit or chastise myself for what happens in my dreams, I’m not really driving, after all…and Mr. 99 is always curious what was going on in my mind after a particularly restless night….

Thanks Bees 🙂 I’m loving all these replies. They’re hilarious.
I think I feel especially guilty about it since I rarely have sexual dreams about my FI, and then the first dream I have in a bit is about someone other than him. My SO on the other hand has sexy dreams about me practically every night. I think he’s always a bit disappointed to hear I didn’t have a sex dream about him when I wake up lol

I had a dream like that about a doctor I was working for a couple years ago. Dr was same age as me and attractive but I was with FI and he was married. Plus I keep my work life seperate from my private life. But anyway it was pretty awkward for me at work because everytime the Dr would ask me for something I’d think about the dream I had where we got busy on his office desk. I never said anything to FI because it didn’t mean anything plus he might have made me quit my job lol. I just carried on each day like it was nothing and eventually I forgot all about the dream. I now have a different job and don’t see this Dr at all, even though we still work for the same hospital.

I had a dream where I left my FI, married Jack Torrance from The Shining, then had an affair with Hawkeye from the Avengers. A detail that my dream brain then forgot about when Jack Torrance started chasing me with an axe…
It was a dream. Dreams are crazy. Don’t worry about it too much.

Haha, it doesn’t mean anything… don’t bother telling him if he’ll act like its something serious.
I have sex dreams about people I know ALL THE TIME. Many times its just a faceless man (or even weirder faceless women). I definitely have no interest in being with a woman, but I have sex dreams with other women. So, that tells me that my sex dreams with other men mean, well, pretty much nothing. Because these men I don’t have feelings for either. OR, maybe I did have feelings for them at some point, but I don’t anymore.
No big deal…
