I applied Saturday night for an associate editor/media manager position at a magazine in Atlanta. They called me yesterday morning asking me to come in for an interview! So I went in this morning at 10:00.
They interviewed me for an hour and 15 minutes. I was interviewed by three different people, all separately. That’s a good sign, right? I would imagine if the first person didn’t like me, she wouldn’t bother to send me on to the next one, right? Or maybe I’m reading too much into it lol.
Anyway, I think it went well. Before the interview, I printed out my resume, a list of my references, my recommendation letter that my old boss wrote for me, my writing samples and my screenshots of the social media accounts that I managed. I gave them all to the first woman that interviewed me and she seemed to be impressed.
She also asked me what I knew about their company and since I had done research on them last night, I was able to start rattling off facts about their company with no problem. She seemed happy about that.
When they asked me if I had any questions for them, I asked the first woman two questions. I asked her what the atmosphere of the office was like. Then I asked her what a typical day would be in the position. She seemed pleased that I asked her those questions.
When she passed me on to the next woman, she told her (IN FRONT OF ME) that I had asked really good questions. When the second woman was done interviewing me, she asked me if I had any questions for her. I asked her what the advancement opportunities were and if there was any potential for growth.
Then the third woman interviewed me. Now she was the boss of the two previous women. At least, that was my impression. However, when she asked me if I had any questions for her, I couldn’t think of any. 🙁 So hopefully she won’t hold that against me too much.
Anyway, I got along well with all three of the women that interviewed me. We joked around a little and I also made them laugh a few times. So I think they liked my personality well enough.
Now I just have to wait to hear from them. I know they’re interviewing other people as well so I just have to hope that no one else has a better interview than I do and/or they don’t have more experience than I do.
I wish I had remembered to ask them when I would likely hear something but I forgot. And they didn’t say anything about when they would let me know either way. Is that a bad sign? :/
Overall, I have a good feeling about this. But I just don’t know for sure. There could be another candidate that is more qualified or has more experience, I don’t know. All I know is that I will be staring intently at my phone for the next week or so! :p
